Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective operation, setup, and maintenance of your Janome JW8100 Computerized Sewing Machine. Please read all instructions carefully before using the machine to ensure proper function and longevity.
Important Safety Instructions
When using an electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:
- Always unplug the machine from the electrical outlet immediately after using and before cleaning, removing covers, or making any user servicing adjustments.
- Do not allow children to use the machine unsupervised.
- Keep fingers away from all moving parts. Special care is required around the sewing machine needle.
- Use the correct needle plate. The wrong plate can cause the needle to break.
- Do not use bent needles.
- Do not pull or push fabric while stitching. This may deflect the needle, causing it to break.
- Always switch the sewing machine off when making any adjustments in the needle area, such as threading the needle, changing the needle, threading the bobbin, or changing the presser foot.
- Never operate the machine with any air openings blocked. Keep ventilation openings of the sewing machine and foot controller free from the accumulation of lint, dust, and loose cloth.
- Do not operate where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygen is being administered.

Connect the power cable to the machine and then to a suitable electrical outlet. Ensure the machine is placed on a stable, flat surface.

4. Threading the Machine

Maintenance
1. Cleaning the Machine
Regularly clean the bobbin area and feed dogs using the lint brush provided. Ensure the machine is unplugged before cleaning. Remove the needle plate and bobbin case to access these areas.
2. Changing the Needle
Always use the correct type and size of needle for your fabric. Loosen the needle clamp screw, remove the old needle, insert the new needle with the flat side facing the back, and tighten the screw securely.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your sewing machine, consider the following common solutions:
- Skipped Stitches: Check if the needle is bent or dull, ensure it is inserted correctly, and verify that the correct needle type is being used for the fabric.
- Thread Breakage: Re-thread the machine completely, check for proper thread tension, ensure the bobbin is wound evenly, and inspect the needle for burrs.
- Fabric Not Feeding: Ensure the presser foot is lowered, check if the feed dogs are engaged, and verify that the stitch length is not set to zero.
- Machine Not Starting: Confirm the power cord is securely plugged in, the foot control is connected (if used), and the main power switch is on.
