5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Making Espresso with Ground Coffee

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled with fresh water.
  2. Select the appropriate filter basket (1-cup or 2-cup) and place it into the portafilter.
  3. Add finely ground espresso coffee to the filter basket. For a single shot, use approximately 7g; for a double shot, use approximately 14g.
  4. Tamp the coffee evenly with a tamper (not included) to create a compact puck.
  5. Attach the portafilter to the brewing head by aligning it and twisting firmly to the right until secure.
  6. Place your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray under the portafilter spouts.
  7. Press the 1-cup or 2-cup espresso button. The machine will automatically brew the espresso and stop when the programmed volume is reached.
  8. Once brewing is complete, carefully remove the portafilter and discard the used coffee grounds.

5.2 Making Espresso with Coffee Pods (Monodosis)

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled with fresh water.
  2. Use the specific filter basket designed for coffee pods (if provided, otherwise use the 1-cup filter).
  3. Place one coffee pod into the filter basket.
  4. Attach the portafilter to the brewing head by aligning it and twisting firmly to the right until secure.
  5. Place your espresso cup under the portafilter spout.
  6. Press the 1-cup espresso button. The machine will automatically brew the espresso.
  7. Once brewing is complete, carefully remove the portafilter and discard the used coffee pod.

5.3 Frothing Milk with the Steam Wand

  1. Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) up to one-third full.
  2. Press the steam button on the control panel. The indicator light will flash as the machine heats up to steaming temperature.
  3. Once the steam light is solid, position the steam wand just below the surface of the milk.
  4. Open the steam control knob (if present, or press the steam button again if it's a toggle) to release steam.
  5. Move the pitcher up and down gently to create foam. Continue until the milk reaches the desired temperature and consistency.
  6. Close the steam control knob and turn off the steam function.
  7. Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

6.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under hot water.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily or when the indicator shows it is full.
  • Steam Wand: Always wipe the steam wand immediately after frothing milk to prevent blockages. Run a short burst of steam to clear any internal residue.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

6.2 Descaling

Regular descaling is crucial to maintain optimal performance and extend the life of your espresso machine. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage, but typically every 2-3 months.

  1. Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions (or use a mixture of white vinegar and water, 1:1 ratio).
  2. Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
  3. Place a large container under the portafilter and steam wand.
  4. Turn on the machine and allow it to heat up.
  5. Run half of the solution through the portafilter by pressing the 2-cup espresso button.
  6. Open the steam control knob and let the remaining solution run through the steam wand.
  7. Turn off the machine and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
  8. Rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water.
  9. Run several full tanks of fresh water through both the portafilter and steam wand to rinse out any descaling solution residue.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No coffee dispenses. Water tank empty; machine not primed; portafilter clogged; coffee too finely ground/over-tamped. Fill water tank; prime the machine; clean portafilter/filter basket; use coarser grind or less pressure when tamping.
Espresso is too weak. Insufficient coffee; coffee too coarsely ground; water too cold. Increase coffee amount; use finer grind; allow machine to fully preheat.
Machine is leaking. Portafilter not properly secured; drip tray full; water tank not seated correctly. Ensure portafilter is tightly locked; empty drip tray; reseat water tank.
Steam wand not producing steam. Steam wand clogged; machine not at steaming temperature. Clean steam wand with a pin; wait for steam indicator light to become solid.

If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact Electrolux customer service.
