Setup

Before first use, follow these steps:

1. Unpack: Remove all packaging materials and labels from the coffee maker.
2. Clean: Wash the carafe and brew basket in hot, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
3. First Brew Cycle (Cleaning):
   • Fill the water reservoir with 12 cups of fresh, cold water.
   • Place an empty paper filter or the permanent filter into the brew basket.
   • Close the brew basket and reservoir lid.
   • Place the empty carafe with its lid on the warming plate.
   • Press the I/O button to start a brew cycle.
   • Allow the cycle to complete, then discard the water.
   • Repeat this process once more to ensure the unit is clean.

Operating Instructions

Setting the Clock

1. Plug the coffee maker into an electrical outlet. The display will flash "12:00".
2. Press the TIME button.
3. Press the H button to set the hour. Press and hold to advance quickly. Note the AM/PM indicator.
4. Press the M button to set the minutes. Press and hold to advance quickly.
5. Once the desired time is displayed, release the buttons. The clock is now set.

Brewing Coffee

1. Add Water: Open the front access water reservoir lid. Pour fresh, cold water into the reservoir using the carafe. The water level indicator on the side will show the amount. Do not exceed the 12-cup MAX line.

2. Add Coffee Grounds: Swing out the brew basket. Place a paper filter (cone-shaped, 8-12 cup size) or the permanent filter into the brew basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. A general guideline is 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per cup. Adjust to taste.

3. Close: Close the brew basket and the water reservoir lid securely.
4. Place Carafe: Ensure the carafe with its lid is properly seated on the warming plate.
5. Start Brewing: Press the I/O button. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
6. Keep Warm: The warming plate will keep coffee hot for 2 hours after brewing, then automatically shut off.

Programmable Brewing (Auto Brew)

To set the coffee maker to brew at a specific time:

1. Prepare the coffee maker with water and coffee grounds as described in steps 1-4 of "Brewing Coffee".
2. Press the PROG button. The display will flash "12:00".
3. Press the H button to set the desired auto-brew hour.
4. Press the M button to set the desired auto-brew minutes.
5. Once the desired auto-brew time is displayed, release the buttons. The PROG indicator light will illuminate, confirming the setting.
6. The coffee maker will automatically start brewing at the programmed time.

Brew Options (Regular/Bold)

To select your preferred brew strength:

• After adding water and coffee grounds, press the BREW OPTIONS button.
• Each press will cycle between "REGULAR" and "BOLD" on the display.
• Select "BOLD" for a stronger coffee flavor.
• Proceed with starting the brew cycle as usual.

1-4 Cup Setting

For brewing smaller batches (1-4 cups), this setting optimizes the brewing process for better flavor extraction:

• After adding water (1-4 cups) and coffee grounds, press the BREW OPTIONS button until "1-4 CUPS" is displayed.
• Proceed with starting the brew cycle.

Maintenance

Daily Cleaning

• Always unplug the coffee maker before cleaning.
• Wash the carafe and brew basket in hot, soapy water or in the dishwasher (top rack only).
• Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
• Do not immerse the coffee maker in water or any other liquid.

Descaling (Cleaning Cycle)

Mineral deposits (calcium) from water can build up in your coffee maker and affect its performance. The "CLEAN" indicator on the display will illuminate when descaling is recommended. Follow these steps to descale:

1. Pour 1 pint (2 cups) of plain white vinegar into the water reservoir.
2. Add 1 pint (2 cups) of cold water to the reservoir.
3. Place an empty paper filter or the permanent filter into the brew basket.
4. Place the empty carafe with its lid on the warming plate.
5. Press the CLEAN button. The "CLEAN" indicator will flash, and the coffee maker will begin a special cleaning cycle.
6. When the cycle is complete, the coffee maker will automatically shut off.
7. Discard the vinegar/water solution from the carafe.
8. Run 2-3 full cycles with fresh, cold water only to rinse out any remaining vinegar.
9. The "CLEAN" indicator will turn off after the descaling cycle is complete and the unit is reset.
