Introduction
The AcuRite 06045M Lightning Detector Sensor is designed to monitor lightning strikes, outdoor temperature, and humidity. This sensor wirelessly transmits data to compatible AcuRite weather stations (sold separately), providing essential environmental information. This manual provides instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your sensor.
Product Overview
The AcuRite 06045M sensor features a compact, weather-resistant design with integrated mounting options. It includes indicators for lightning strikes and wireless signal strength.

Setup
1. Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the sensor.
- Remove the battery compartment cover.
- Insert 4 AA alkaline or lithium batteries (not included) according to the polarity markings (+/-).
- Replace the battery compartment cover securely.
2. Mounting the Sensor
For optimal performance, choose a location that is:
- Outdoors, away from direct sunlight to ensure accurate temperature readings.
- At least 5 feet (1.5 meters) off the ground.
- Away from sources of electrical interference such as microwave ovens, cell phones, Wi-Fi routers, and cordless drills, which can cause false lightning strike detections.
- Within 330 feet (100 meters) of your compatible AcuRite weather station for reliable wireless transmission.
Use the integrated easy-mount hanger to hang the sensor on a suitable surface like a post or tree branch.

Operation
Lightning Detection
The sensor detects lightning strikes within a 25-mile (40-kilometer) radius. When lightning is detected, the Lightning Strike Indicator will flash, and an audible alarm will sound. The sensor transmits data every 24 seconds under normal conditions, and every 8 seconds once lightning is detected.
Temperature and Humidity Monitoring
The built-in thermometer and hygrometer accurately measure outdoor temperature and humidity conditions. These readings are transmitted wirelessly to your compatible AcuRite weather station.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Clean the sensor with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents that may damage the plastic housing or electronic components.
Battery Replacement
Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on your compatible display unit. Always replace all 4 AA batteries at the same time with fresh batteries.
Troubleshooting
- No Data Transmission: Ensure batteries are fresh and correctly installed. Verify the sensor is within range of the compatible weather station (up to 330 feet). Check for obstructions between the sensor and the display unit.
- Inaccurate Temperature/Humidity Readings: Ensure the sensor is mounted in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight, which can artificially inflate temperature readings.
- False Lightning Detections: The sensor is sensitive to electromagnetic interference. Avoid placing the sensor near appliances such as microwave ovens, cell phones, Wi-Fi routers, or other electronic devices that emit radio frequency energy. Position the sensor well away from the base unit if experiencing frequent false positives.
- Sensor Not Connecting: If the sensor does not connect to your AcuRite display, try resetting both units. Remove batteries from both, wait a few minutes, then reinsert batteries into the sensor first, followed by the display unit.
