4. Setup

4.1. Wired USB Connection

  1. Locate the USB port on the back of your keyboard.
  2. Connect one end of the provided USB cable to the keyboard.
  3. Connect the other end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer.
  4. The keyboard will be automatically recognized by your operating system.

4.2. Wireless Bluetooth Connection

Before establishing a Bluetooth connection, ensure batteries are installed.

  1. Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the underside of the keyboard and insert two AA batteries (included).
  2. Turn On Bluetooth: Locate the power switch on the back of the keyboard and switch it to the 'ON' position for Bluetooth mode.
  3. Enter Pairing Mode: Press and hold the Fn key and one of the Bluetooth keys (1, 2, 3, or 4) for approximately 3 seconds until the corresponding LED indicator flashes rapidly. This indicates the keyboard is in pairing mode for that device slot.
  4. Enable Bluetooth on Your Device: On your computer, tablet, or smartphone, enable Bluetooth and search for new devices.
  5. Select Keyboard: From the list of available devices, select "FILCO Convertible 2" (or similar name).
  6. Complete Pairing: Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the pairing process. You may be asked to enter a code on the keyboard.
  7. Pair Additional Devices: Repeat steps 3-6 for up to three additional devices, using a different Bluetooth key (1, 2, 3, or 4) for each new device.

4.3. Switching Between Devices

To switch between paired Bluetooth devices, simply press the Fn key along with the corresponding Bluetooth key (1, 2, 3, or 4) for the desired device. The keyboard will automatically connect to the selected device.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. General Key Functions

The keyboard features a standard Japanese Kana layout. Familiarize yourself with the key positions for efficient typing.

5.2. DIP Switch Settings

The keyboard includes DIP switches on the back for advanced customization of key functions. Use the provided keycap puller to remove keycaps if necessary to access the switches.

6. Maintenance

  • Battery Replacement: Replace AA batteries when the low battery indicator lights up or when wireless performance degrades.
  • Storage: Store the keyboard in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Keyboard not responding (Wired): Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and the computer. Try a different USB port or cable.
  • Keyboard not responding (Wireless):
    • Check if the keyboard is powered on and has fresh batteries.
    • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device.
    • Verify that the correct Bluetooth channel (1, 2, 3, or 4) is selected on the keyboard.
    • If connection issues persist, try unpairing and re-pairing the keyboard with your device.
    • Interference from other wireless devices (e.g., Wi-Fi, other Bluetooth devices) can sometimes affect connectivity. Try moving the keyboard closer to your device or reducing other wireless activity.
  • Keys not working or double-typing: Clean under the affected keycaps. If the issue persists, it may indicate a switch malfunction.
  • DIP switch settings not applying: Ensure the keyboard is disconnected or powered off before changing DIP switch settings, then reconnect/power on for changes to take effect.
