1. Introduction
This user manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Kymate USB Programming Cable. This cable is designed to facilitate communication between your computer and compatible YAESU radio transceivers, enabling programming and configuration tasks.
2. Safety Information
- Do not expose the cable to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or moisture.
- Avoid bending or twisting the cable excessively, as this may damage internal wires.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Disconnect the cable from both devices when not in use.
- Ensure proper driver installation before connecting the cable to your radio.

4. Setup
4.1 Driver Installation
- Do NOT connect the cable to your computer yet.
- Locate the appropriate USB-to-Serial driver for your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux). These drivers are typically for the Prolific PL2303 or FTDI chipset, depending on the cable's internal converter.
- Download the driver from a reliable source (e.g., the chipset manufacturer's official website or a reputable amateur radio software site).
- Run the driver installation package and follow the on-screen prompts. You may need to restart your computer after installation.
4.2 Connecting the Cable
- After successful driver installation, connect the USB Type A end of the programming cable to an available USB port on your computer.
- Connect the DB9 serial end of the programming cable to the corresponding serial port on your YAESU radio. Ensure a secure connection.
- Your computer should now recognize the cable and assign a COM port number to it. You can verify this in your operating system's Device Manager (Windows) or System Information (macOS/Linux). Note down the assigned COM port number.

5. Operating
5.1 Software Configuration
To program your radio, you will need compatible programming software. Popular options include:
- CHIRP: A free, open-source program supporting many radio models.
- Manufacturer's Software: Specific software provided by YAESU for their radio models.
- Other Third-Party Software: Various commercial or freeware options available.
Once you have installed your chosen programming software:
- Launch the programming software.
- Navigate to the software's settings or preferences menu, typically labeled "Port," "COM Port," or "Radio Settings."
- Select the COM port number that was assigned to your USB programming cable during setup (e.g., COM3, COM4).
- Ensure the baud rate and other serial communication settings in the software match the requirements of your specific YAESU radio model. Refer to your radio's manual for these details.
5.2 Programming Your Radio
With the cable connected and software configured:
- Turn on your YAESU radio.
- In the programming software, select the option to "Download from Radio" or "Read from Radio" to retrieve the current configuration. This is highly recommended as a backup.
- Make your desired changes to frequencies, memory channels, settings, etc., within the software.
- Select the option to "Upload to Radio" or "Write to Radio" to transfer the new configuration.
- Wait for the programming process to complete. Do not disconnect the cable or power off the radio during this time.
- Once complete, disconnect the cable and restart your radio to apply the new settings.
6. Maintenance
- Clean the cable and connectors periodically with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners.
- Store the cable in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Avoid tangling the cable. Coil it loosely when not in use to prevent damage.
- Inspect the cable and connectors regularly for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. Discontinue use if damage is observed.
