4. Setup: Battery Installation

The Nitecore LA10 operates on one (1) AA battery. Ensure the battery is inserted with the correct polarity.

1. Unscrew the tail cap of the lantern by turning it counter-clockwise.
2. Insert one AA battery with the positive (+) terminal facing towards the head of the lantern.
3. Screw the tail cap back on by turning it clockwise until it is securely tightened.

Note: Incorrect battery insertion can prevent the lantern from functioning or cause damage. Always use high-quality AA batteries.

5. Operating Instructions

The LA10 features a simple twist-switch mechanism for power and mode selection.

5.1 Power On/Off

• To turn the lantern ON: Slightly tighten the tail cap by twisting it clockwise.
• To turn the lantern OFF: Slightly loosen the tail cap by twisting it counter-clockwise.

5.2 Brightness Levels and Special Modes

The LA10 offers three brightness levels (High, Mid, Low) and a special Beacon mode. To cycle through modes:

1. With the lantern OFF, quickly tighten and loosen the tail cap repeatedly.
2. Each quick ON-OFF cycle will advance the lantern to the next mode in the sequence: Low → Mid → High → Beacon.
3. To select a mode, leave the tail cap tightened when the desired mode is active.

The lantern has a memory function and will turn on in the last used brightness level (Low, Mid, or High) if left off for more than 2 seconds. Beacon mode is not memorized.

5.3 Diffuser Adjustment

The LA10 features a retractable diffuser. Pull the head of the lantern to extend the diffuser for broader, more diffused light. Push the head back in to retract the diffuser for a more focused beam or for compact storage.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

• Wipe the lantern with a clean, soft cloth.
• Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

6.2 Storage

• Remove the battery if the lantern will not be used for an extended period to prevent battery leakage.
• Store the lantern in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

• Lantern does not turn on:
  • Check if the battery is inserted correctly with the positive (+) terminal facing the head.
  • Ensure the tail cap is securely tightened.
  • Replace the battery with a fresh one.
• Light flickers or is dim:
  • The battery may be low; replace it.
  • Ensure the tail cap is fully tightened.
