  • 1 x 60x60cm Grid Softbox Fabric
  • 1 x Bowens Mount Speedring
  • 1 x Storage Bag
  • 4 x Support Rods
  • 2 x Soft Cloth Diffusers (Inner and Outer)
  • 1 x Honeycomb Grid

3. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to assemble your GODOX SB-FW6060 Softbox:

  1. Prepare the Speedring: Place the Bowens mount speedring on a flat surface. Note the four holes where the support rods will be inserted.
  2. Insert Support Rods: Take one support rod. Locate the small pockets on the inside corners of the softbox fabric. Insert the metal end of a rod into one of these pockets. Then, carefully bend the rod and insert the other end into a corresponding hole on the Bowens mount speedring. Repeat this process for all four rods. This step may require some force as the rods are designed to create tension for the softbox shape.

  4. Attach Inner Diffuser: The inner diffuser has small elastic loops with hooks. Attach these hooks to the corresponding loops located inside the softbox, near the center. This diffuser helps to further soften the light.

  6. Attach Outer Diffuser: The outer diffuser attaches to the front edges of the softbox using Velcro strips. Align the diffuser with the softbox opening and press the Velcro firmly to secure it.

  8. Attach Honeycomb Grid (Optional): If desired, attach the honeycomb grid to the outer edge of the softbox, over the outer diffuser. The grid also uses Velcro for attachment. This grid helps to control light spill and create a more directional light source.

  10. Mount to Light: Once assembled, attach the softbox to your Bowens mount compatible studio flash or speedlite bracket. Ensure it is securely fastened.

4. Operating Instructions

The GODOX SB-FW6060 Softbox is designed for straightforward operation once assembled.

  • Light Softening: The primary function of the softbox is to diffuse and soften the light from your flash. The internal reflective silver lining maximizes light output, while the inner and outer diffusers spread the light evenly.
  • Light Control with Grid: For more directional light and reduced light spill, attach the honeycomb grid to the front of the softbox. This is particularly useful for accentuating subjects and controlling background illumination.
  • Adjusting Position: The softbox can be rotated 360 degrees on its Bowens mount to achieve the desired light angle. Ensure the mounting screw is tightened sufficiently to prevent unwanted rotation during use.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance will extend the lifespan of your softbox:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior of the softbox. For the diffusers, gentle hand washing with mild soap and water is permissible, followed by air drying. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
  • Storage: When not in use, disassemble the softbox and store all components in the provided storage bag. This protects the fabric and rods from damage and keeps all parts together.
  • GODOX softbox components neatly packed into its black carry bag

Image 5.1: The softbox and its components stored in the carry bag.

  • Handling: Avoid sharp objects near the softbox fabric to prevent tears. Do not apply excessive force when assembling or disassembling the rods.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Difficulty Assembling Rods: The rods are designed to be taut to create the softbox shape. It is normal to apply significant force to bend and insert them into the speedring. If you find it extremely difficult, ensure you are inserting the correct end into the speedring holes and the other end into the fabric pockets. Over time, the material may become slightly more flexible.
  • Softbox Rotates on Mount: If the softbox rotates freely or comes loose on the Bowens mount, ensure the locking screw on your flash unit or speedlite bracket is securely tightened against the speedring. Periodically check this connection during use.
  • Uneven Light Output: Ensure both inner and outer diffusers are correctly installed and smooth. Check that the flash head is centered within the softbox.
