5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance will prolong the life of your kettle.

5.1 General Cleaning

  • Always unplug the kettle from the mains and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Wipe the exterior of the kettle with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Never immerse the kettle or its power base in water.

5.2 Cleaning the Lime Scale Filter

The removable stainless steel lime scale filter should be cleaned regularly, especially in hard water areas.

  1. Ensure the kettle is cool and empty.
  2. Open the lid and carefully pull the filter upwards and out of its holder at the spout.
  3. Rinse the filter under running water and gently brush away any lime scale deposits.
  4. Reinsert the clean filter into its holder until it clicks into place.

5.3 Descaling

Lime scale buildup can affect performance and energy efficiency. Descale your kettle regularly (e.g., monthly, or more often in hard water areas).

  • Use a commercially available descaling agent suitable for kettles, following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Alternatively, you can use a solution of white vinegar and water (e.g., 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water). Fill the kettle with the solution and let it stand for an hour (do not boil).
  • After descaling, empty the kettle and rinse it thoroughly several times with fresh water to remove any residue.
  • Boil fresh water in the kettle and discard it two to three times before using it for beverages.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your kettle, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Kettle does not switch on:
    • Check if the kettle is properly placed on the power base.
    • Ensure the power plug is securely inserted into the wall socket.
    • Verify that the On/Off switch is pressed down.
    • Check your household's circuit breaker.
  • Water is not boiling:
    • The kettle may have activated its boil-dry protection. Allow it to cool down for a few minutes before refilling and attempting to boil again.
  • Water has an unusual taste or smell:
    • This can sometimes occur with new appliances. Perform the initial cleaning steps (boiling and discarding water) multiple times.
    • Ensure the kettle is regularly descaled and cleaned.
  • Kettle leaks:
    • Ensure the lid is closed properly.
    • Check if the water level exceeds the 'MAX' mark.
    • Inspect the lime scale filter for proper seating.

If the problem persists after trying these solutions, please contact Bosch customer service.
