2. Setup
2.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the machine from its packaging. Ensure all components are present: the espresso machine, Aeroccino milk frother, a welcome pack of Nespresso Grand Cru capsules, and this user manual.
2.2 Water Tank
- Remove the 34 oz (1 liter) water tank from the back of the machine.
- Rinse the water tank with fresh drinking water.
- Fill the tank with fresh drinking water up to the 'MAX' level indicator.
- Place the water tank back onto the machine, ensuring it is securely seated.
2.3 Power Connection
Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. The machine will automatically turn on, and the Espresso and Lungo buttons will begin to flash, indicating the machine is heating up.
2.4 First Use & Rinsing
Before preparing your first coffee, it is recommended to rinse the machine:
- Place a container (at least 20 oz capacity) under the coffee outlet.
- Press either the Espresso or Lungo button. The machine will dispense hot water.
- Repeat this process 2-3 times to ensure the internal system is clean.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Power On/Off
To turn the machine on, press either the Espresso or Lungo button. The buttons will flash while heating and glow steadily when ready. The machine features an auto-off function after 9 minutes of inactivity to save energy.
3.2 Capsule Insertion
- Lift the chrome lever at the top of the machine to open the capsule chamber.
- Insert a Nespresso Original Line capsule into the chamber. Note: This machine is not compatible with Nespresso VertuoLine capsules.
- Close the lever firmly.
3.3 Coffee Preparation
- Place your cup on the drip tray. For smaller cups, the drip tray can be folded up to accommodate larger mugs.
- Once the machine buttons are steadily lit (not flashing), press the desired button:
- Espresso Button: For a short, concentrated coffee (approx. 1.35 oz).
- Lungo Button: For a longer coffee (approx. 3.7 oz).
- The machine will automatically stop when the selected volume is dispensed.
3.4 Milk Frothing (Aeroccino)
The integrated Aeroccino milk frother allows for simultaneous preparation of coffee and milk froth.
- Ensure the correct whisk is inserted into the Aeroccino for your desired froth type (e.g., spring whisk for dense froth, plain whisk for hot milk).
- Pour fresh milk into the Aeroccino up to the appropriate 'MAX' level indicator (lower for froth, higher for hot milk).
- Place the lid on the Aeroccino.
- Press the button on the Aeroccino:
- Short press (red light): For hot milk froth.
- Long press (blue light): For cold milk froth.
- The frother will automatically stop when the milk is ready.
3.5 Used Capsule Container
After each brew, the used capsule is automatically ejected into the internal container. This container holds up to 11 used capsules and should be emptied regularly.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Daily Cleaning
- Water Tank: Remove and rinse with fresh water daily.
- Drip Tray & Used Capsule Container: Remove, empty, and wash with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Coffee Outlet: After each use, run a short cycle without a capsule to rinse the coffee outlet.
- Aeroccino: Immediately after use, remove the whisk and rinse the interior of the frother and the whisk with warm water. Use a soft cloth or sponge if necessary.
4.2 Descaling
Regular descaling is crucial to maintain machine performance and coffee quality. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage. Refer to the Nespresso website or contact Nespresso Club Services for recommended descaling procedures and products.
5. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No coffee flow | Empty water tank / Air bubble in system / Machine needs descaling | Fill water tank / Run several Lungo cycles without capsule / Perform descaling procedure |
| Coffee not hot enough | Cold cup / Machine needs descaling | Pre-heat cup with hot water / Perform descaling procedure |
| Milk not frothing correctly | Incorrect whisk / Milk type / Aeroccino not clean | Ensure correct whisk is used / Use fresh, cold milk (dairy or barista-style plant-based) / Clean Aeroccino thoroughly |
