4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The Sola Vector 40 requires 2 AAA batteries (not included). To install the batteries:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Slide or unclip the cover to open the compartment.
- Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power On/Off
- To power on: Press the POWER/CLEAR button (red circle with power symbol). The display will light up.
- To power off: Press and hold the POWER/CLEAR button for a few seconds, or the device will automatically shut off after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.
5.2 Basic Measurement
- Power on the device.
- Point the laser beam at the target surface.
- Press the MEAS button (red button with laser symbol) once to activate the laser.
- Press the MEAS button again to take a measurement. The measured distance will be displayed on the screen.
5.3 Changing Measurement Reference Point
The device typically measures from its base. Refer to the on-screen icon to confirm the current reference point (front or rear of the device).
- Press the Reference Point button (button with two arrows pointing to different ends of a line) to toggle between measuring from the front edge or the rear edge of the device.
5.4 Clearing Measurements
- To clear the last measurement or exit a function, press the POWER/CLEAR button briefly.
6. Measurement Modes
The Sola Vector 40 offers various measurement modes for different applications. Use the Function button (button with stacked rectangles) to cycle through the available modes.
6.1 Single Distance Measurement
This is the default mode for measuring a single distance between two points.
6.2 Area Measurement
To calculate the area of a rectangular space:
- Select the Area measurement mode.
- Measure the length by pressing MEAS.
- Measure the width by pressing MEAS.
- The device will automatically calculate and display the area.
6.3 Volume Measurement
To calculate the volume of a space:
- Select the Volume measurement mode.
- Measure the length by pressing MEAS.
- Measure the width by pressing MEAS.
- Measure the height by pressing MEAS.
- The device will automatically calculate and display the volume.
6.4 Continuous Measurement (Tracking)
This mode allows for continuous measurement as you move the device, displaying the current distance in real-time. Useful for finding minimum/maximum distances or setting out points.
- Select the Continuous Measurement mode.
- The device will continuously measure and update the distance on the display.
- Press MEAS again to stop continuous measurement.
7. Maintenance and Care
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Clean the laser lens gently with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Storage: Store the device in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Batteries: Remove batteries if the device is not used for extended periods to prevent corrosion.
- Avoid Impact: Protect the device from drops and strong impacts, which can affect its accuracy and functionality.
