1. Introduction

The WilTec SKD-3 Water Pump Pressure Controller is designed to automatically manage the operation of your water pump, ensuring a consistent water supply and protecting the pump from damage. This device initiates and halts the pump based on water demand, maintains stable pressure within the domestic water network, and incorporates a dry-run protection mechanism to prevent pump operation without water. It also effectively mitigates water hammer effects, contributing to the longevity of your plumbing system.

4.1 Pre-Installation Checks:

4.2 Installation Steps:

1. Mounting: Install the pressure controller vertically, ensuring the flow direction arrow on the unit matches the water flow. It should be mounted between the pump outlet and the first water tap.
2. Water Connections: Connect the pump outlet to the inlet of the pressure controller (typically the bottom connection). Connect the outlet of the pressure controller (typically the side connection) to your domestic water network. Use appropriate sealing materials (e.g., PTFE tape) to ensure watertight connections. The unit features 1-inch (32.89 mm) connections.
3. Electrical Connections:
   • The SKD-3 comes with two pre-attached cables, each 1.35m long: one for the power supply (safety plug) and one for connecting to the pump (male plug).
   • Connect the pump's power cable to the designated output cable of the SKD-3 unit.
   • Plug the SKD-3's input power cable into a suitable 230V single-phase power outlet.
   • For three-phase pumps (up to 400V), the SKD-3 can be coupled with a power contactor. Consult a qualified electrician for this setup.
4. Priming the Pump: Before starting, ensure the pump is properly primed according to its manufacturer's instructions. The SKD-3 requires water flow to operate correctly.

5. Operating Instructions

The SKD-3 operates automatically once correctly installed and powered.

1. Initial Start-up:
   • Ensure the pump is primed and the system is filled with water.
   • Connect the SKD-3 to the power supply. The pump will start automatically and run for a few seconds to pressurize the system.
   • Open a tap in your water system to allow water to flow. The pump should continue to run.
   • Close the tap. The pump should stop after a few seconds, indicating the system is pressurized and the controller is functioning correctly.
2. Automatic Operation: The controller will automatically start the pump when a tap is opened (detecting a pressure drop and flow) and stop the pump when the tap is closed (detecting pressure build-up and cessation of flow).
3. Dry-Run Protection: If the water source runs dry, the SKD-3 will detect a lack of water flow and stop the pump to prevent damage. The unit will typically attempt to restart after a period or require manual reset once water supply is restored.

6. Maintenance

The WilTec SKD-3 is designed for minimal maintenance. However, regular checks can ensure optimal performance and extend its lifespan.

• Regular Inspection: Periodically check the unit and all connections for leaks, corrosion, or physical damage.
• Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Winterization: In areas prone to freezing, disconnect the unit and drain all water to prevent damage from ice expansion. Store in a dry, frost-free location.
