2. Important Safety Instructions

Please read and follow all safety instructions carefully to prevent electric shock, fire, or injury. Keep these instructions for future reference.

  • Power Source: Connect the unit only to a power supply of the type described in the operating instructions or marked on the appliance. Ensure the power cable is not damaged or pinched.
  • Ventilation: Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Maintain adequate space around the unit for proper airflow.
  • Water and Moisture: Do not use this apparatus near water or expose it to dripping or splashing. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the apparatus.
  • Heat: Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
  • Grounding: Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding-type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
  • Cleaning: Clean only with a dry cloth.
  • Servicing: Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
  • Accessories: Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
  • Transport: Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.

3. Setup and Connections

This section guides you through the initial setup and connection of your iQ15 powered speaker.

3.1 Unboxing and Inspection

Carefully remove the iQ15 from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage that may have occurred during transit. Retain the original packaging for future transport or storage.

3.2 Speaker Placement

The iQ15 can be placed on a stand, floor, wall, or ceiling. For optimal sound, consider the acoustics of your environment. The Klark Teknik Spatial Contour Control (SCC) DSP function allows you to optimize the speaker's frequency response based on its physical placement. Adjust this setting via the DSP controls to compensate for different mounting scenarios.

  • Power Input: Connect the included power cable to the AC input on the rear panel and then to a suitable power outlet.
  • Audio Inputs (XLR): Use balanced XLR cables to connect your audio source (mixer, microphone, etc.) to the INPUT A or INPUT B XLR jacks.
  • Audio Outputs (XLR): The LINK OUTPUT A and LINK OUTPUT B XLR jacks allow you to send the audio signal to other iQ series speakers or other audio devices.
  • USB Port: For firmware updates and remote control via computer software (refer to separate software manual for details).
  • ULTRANET Input/Output: For digital audio networking with compatible Behringer and Midas products.

4. Operation

This section covers the basic operation and advanced features of your iQ15 powered speaker.

4.1 Powering On/Off

  1. Ensure all audio connections are secure.
  2. Turn down the MASTER GAIN control on the iQ15 to its minimum setting.
  3. Connect the power cable to a power outlet.
  4. Flip the POWER switch on the rear panel to the ON position.
  5. Slowly increase the MASTER GAIN to the desired listening level.
  6. To power off, reverse the process: turn down MASTER GAIN, then flip the POWER switch to OFF.

4.2 Klark Teknik DSP Control

The iQ15 features a powerful Klark Teknik DSP that allows for precise control over the speaker's performance. The LCD display and rotary encoder/buttons on the rear panel provide access to various settings.

  • Dynamic EQ: Automatically adjusts the frequency response for optimal sound quality, even at low volume levels.
  • Transparent Limiting: Protects the speaker from overload while maintaining clarity at high output levels.
  • Speaker Modelling: Access presets that emulate the sound characteristics of various industry-standard loudspeakers. Navigate through the DSP menu to select the desired model.
  • Spatial Contour Control (SCC): Adjusts the speaker's frequency response to compensate for its physical placement (e.g., stand, floor, wall, ceiling). This helps to maintain a balanced sound profile regardless of mounting.
  • User Presets: Save your customized DSP settings as user presets for quick recall.

Refer to the detailed DSP menu guide (often available as a separate document or within the speaker's on-screen menu) for comprehensive instructions on navigating and adjusting all DSP parameters.

5. Maintenance and Care

Proper care and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your iQ15 speaker.

5.1 Cleaning

  • Always disconnect the speaker from the power supply before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior surfaces.
  • For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but ensure no moisture enters the speaker grille or control panel.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as these can damage the finish.

5.2 Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the iQ15 in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If possible, use the original packaging or a protective cover to prevent dust accumulation and physical damage.
