3.2 Software Installation (Optional)
While the STARRYPAD functions as a standard MIDI controller, dedicated software can enhance its capabilities, allowing for deeper customization of pads, faders, and knobs.
- Editor Software: An editor program is available for advanced configuration. The download link for this software is typically found in the user guide PDF provided on the product's detail page or the manufacturer's website. This software allows you to assign individual MIDI codes to each pad and control.
- DAW Compatibility: The STARRYPAD is compatible with various Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Cubase, Ableton Live, and GarageBand. Ensure your DAW is updated to the latest version for optimal performance.

4.2 Pad Functionality
The 16 backlit silicone pads are velocity-sensitive, meaning the sound's intensity changes based on how hard you strike the pad. They can trigger drums, samples, and effects.
- Velocity Sensitivity: The pads respond to the force of your touch, allowing for expressive performances.
- Pad Banks: Use the "Pad Bank" button to switch between three different banks of pads, expanding the total number of assignable pads to 48.
- Colorful Backlighting: The pads illuminate in 7 dazzling colors, which can be configured via the accompanying software or respond to your playing.

4.3 Assignable Controls
The STARRYPAD includes 2 assignable faders, 2 assignable knobs, and 3 assignable buttons. These can be customized to control various parameters within your DAW or virtual instruments (VSTs).
- Faders and Knobs: Ideal for controlling volume, pan, filter cutoff, resonance, or other continuous parameters.
- Buttons: Can be assigned to trigger specific functions, mute/solo tracks, or activate effects.
- Bank Switching: Use the "Fader Bank" and "Knob Bank" buttons to access multiple sets of assignments for these controls.
4.4 Advanced Features
- Note Repeat: Activates a function that automatically repeats a triggered note or sample at a set tempo, useful for creating rhythmic patterns. The ultra-low latency ensures seamless performance.
- Tap Tempo: Allows you to set the tempo (BPM) by tapping a button, synchronizing the STARRYPAD with your DAW's tempo.
- Shift Function: The SHIFT button provides access to secondary functions for certain controls, such as adjusting semitones and octaves for melodic input.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
To maintain the appearance and functionality of your STARRYPAD:
- Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the surface of the device.
- For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water. Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
- Do not spray cleaning liquids directly onto the device.
5.2 Storage
When not in use, store the STARRYPAD in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and excessive dust or moisture. Protect it from impacts and spills.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Device Not Recognized
- Ensure the USB-C cable is securely connected to both the STARRYPAD and your computer.
- Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.
- Test with a different USB-C cable if available.
- Restart your computer and the STARRYPAD.
- Check your operating system's device manager (Windows) or Audio MIDI Setup (macOS) to see if the device is listed.
6.2 Pads Not Responding or Incorrect Velocity
- Verify that the STARRYPAD is powered on and connected.
- Check the settings within your DAW or instrument software to ensure the correct MIDI input device is selected.
- If pads are always triggering at full volume, ensure the "Full Level" button is not activated unintentionally.
- Adjust velocity curve settings in the STARRYPAD editor software if available, or within your DAW.
6.3 Software/Editor Issues
- Ensure you have downloaded the correct editor software version for your operating system from the official Donner website.
- Temporarily disable any antivirus or firewall software that might be blocking the editor.
- Run the editor software as an administrator (Windows) if encountering permission issues.
