1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your symcode POS Thermal Receipt Printer. This printer is designed for point-of-sale applications, offering fast and reliable thermal printing with an auto-cutter feature and multiple connectivity options.

2. Setup

2.1 Package Contents

Before proceeding with the setup, please verify that all items listed below are present in the package:

• Thermal Receipt Printer
• Power adapter
• Power cord
• USB cable
• Sample thermal paper roll
• Installation CD
• Instruction Guide (this manual)

2.2 Connecting the Printer

The symcode POS Thermal Receipt Printer offers multiple connectivity options:

• USB: Connect the printer directly to your computer using the provided USB cable.
• Serial (RS232): Connect via a serial cable for direct communication with compatible systems.
• Ethernet/LAN: Connect the printer to your network using an Ethernet cable to allow multiple computers to share the printer.
• Cash Drawer Port: Connect a compatible cash drawer to the dedicated port for automatic opening upon receipt printing.

Ensure the power adapter is connected to the printer's power port and then to a power outlet. Use the ON/OFF switch located at the rear of the printer to power it on.

2.3 Driver Installation

The printer supports various operating systems. Insert the provided Installation CD into your computer and follow the on-screen instructions to install the necessary drivers. Supported operating systems include:

• Windows 9X, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10
• Linux
• Android
• iOS (Note: This printer does not have Bluetooth capabilities and is not compatible with Square POS systems.)

2.4 Paper Loading

Follow these steps to load the thermal paper roll:

1. Locate the "OPEN" lever on the side of the printer.
2. Press the "OPEN" lever to release the top cover.
3. Lift the top cover to access the paper compartment.
4. Place the thermal paper roll into the compartment, ensuring the paper feeds from the bottom and the leading edge extends out of the printer.
5. Close the top cover firmly until it clicks into place.
6. Tear off any excess paper.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Basic Printing

Once the printer is connected and drivers are installed, you can initiate print jobs from your POS software or application. The printer uses direct thermal printing technology, eliminating the need for ink cartridges. It features an auto-cutter for convenient receipt separation.

3.2 Control Panel

The front panel of the printer includes indicator lights and a feed button:

• POWER: Indicates the printer is powered on.
• ERROR: Illuminates to indicate a printer error. Refer to the Troubleshooting section for details.
• PAPER OUT: Illuminates when the paper roll is empty or running low.
• FEED Button: Press this button to manually advance the paper.

4. Maintenance

4.1 General Cleaning

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your printer, regular cleaning is recommended:

• Power off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
• Use a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with a mild cleaning solution (e.g., isopropyl alcohol) to wipe the exterior of the printer.
• Gently clean the thermal print head using a specialized thermal print head cleaning pen or a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Allow it to dry completely before use.
• Remove any paper dust or debris from the paper compartment.

4.2 Paper Roll Replacement

When the PAPER OUT indicator illuminates, it's time to replace the paper roll. Follow the steps outlined in Section 2.4 Paper Loading to replace the roll.

5. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your symcode POS Thermal Receipt Printer.

Printer not powering on / No power light:

Ensure the power cord is securely connected to both the printer and a working power outlet. Verify the ON/OFF switch on the rear of the printer is in the 'ON' position.

ERROR indicator is on:

This indicates a general error. Check for paper jams, ensure the paper cover is properly closed, and verify the print head is not overheated (allow it to cool if recently used heavily). Power cycle the printer (turn off, wait 10 seconds, turn on).

PAPER OUT indicator is on:

The paper roll is empty or incorrectly loaded. Replace the paper roll as described in Section 2.4.

No print output / Blank receipts:

Ensure the thermal paper is loaded correctly (thermal side facing the print head). Verify the printer drivers are installed correctly and the printer is selected as the default printer in your application. Check cable connections (USB, Serial, LAN).

Printer not compatible with Square POS:

This printer is explicitly noted as NOT COMPATIBLE with Square POS systems. It uses Epson Standard ESC/POS Commands.

Printer not working with QuickBooks Desktop:

Some users have reported issues with QuickBooks Desktop for printing receipts or invoices. Ensure your QuickBooks version supports generic thermal printers and that the printer is correctly configured within QuickBooks settings. Consult QuickBooks support for specific integration requirements.

Poor print quality:

Clean the thermal print head as described in Section 4.1. Ensure you are using high-quality thermal paper. Check if the paper roll is old or stored improperly.
