5. Operation

The ABLOY 2014 Lock Case offers versatile operation for interior doors:

  • Key Operation: Insert the provided key into the keyhole and turn to lock or unlock the door.
  • Lever Handle Operation: The lock can be used with a lever handle to retract the latchbolt, allowing the door to open.
  • Toilet Thumbturn Option: For bathroom or privacy doors, the lock can be operated with a toilet thumbturn (not included) instead of a key.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and smooth operation of your ABLOY 2014 Lock Case:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the visible parts of the lock case and striking plate with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of graphite-based lubricant or a silicone spray to the keyhole and latch mechanism to ensure smooth operation. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can attract dust and grime.
  • Inspection: Regularly check all screws for tightness. Ensure the latchbolt and deadbolt (if applicable) move freely without obstruction.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ABLOY 2014 Lock Case, consider the following:

  • Key is Sticking or Hard to Turn: Apply lubricant to the keyhole. Check if the key is bent or damaged.
  • Latchbolt Not Retracting/Extending Smoothly: Check for obstructions in the mortise or striking plate. Lubricate the latch mechanism. Ensure mounting screws are not overtightened, which can bind the mechanism.
  • Door Not Latching Properly: Verify that the striking plate is correctly aligned with the latchbolt. Adjust the striking plate if necessary.
  • Loose Lock Case: Tighten all mounting screws on the faceplate.
