Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the proper installation and use of the Carlon B234ADJ Adjustable 2-Gang Electrical Box. This PVC box is designed for new work applications, offering a simple, adjustable solution for mounting electrical devices securely and flush with various wall thicknesses.
Safety Information
WARNING: Always disconnect power at the main service panel before installing or servicing electrical boxes. Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician or in accordance with local electrical codes. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electrical shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Ensure all wiring connections are secure and properly insulated.
- Do not overload the electrical box with more wires or devices than its rated capacity.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during installation.
Setup and Installation
The Carlon B234ADJ Adjustable Box is designed for easy and secure installation in new construction.
Step 1: Prepare the Mounting Location
Identify the desired location for the electrical box on a wall stud. Ensure there is sufficient space for the box and any associated wiring.
Step 2: Attach the Bracket
Clip the included bracket onto the stud. The design ensures the box mounts square and securely every time. Securing the bracket to the stud prevents the box from moving after installation.

Step 3: Adjust Box Depth
The patented design allows the installer to adjust the box to any wall thickness with the turn of a screw. The box comes preset at 1/2 inch. Rotate the adjustment screw to achieve the desired depth, flush with the finished wall surface.
Step 4: Wiring and Device Installation
Once the box is securely mounted and adjusted, proceed with pulling electrical wires into the box through the designated knockouts. Install electrical devices (e.g., outlets, switches) into the box using appropriate screws.
This product satisfies NEC 370-20 and is UL listed 5Z74 and classified 2 hr W/C.
Operation
The Carlon B234ADJ Adjustable Box functions as a protective enclosure for electrical wiring and devices. Once installed and wired correctly, it provides a safe and compliant housing for your electrical connections. There are no user-operable parts after installation.
Maintenance
The Carlon B234ADJ Adjustable Box requires minimal maintenance. Periodically inspect the box and surrounding area for any signs of damage, loose connections, or excessive heat.
- Ensure the cover plates for installed devices are securely fastened.
- If any damage is observed, disconnect power and replace the box if necessary.

Troubleshooting
Most issues related to electrical boxes are installation-dependent.
- Box Not Flush with Wall: Re-adjust the depth screw until the box is flush with the finished wall surface.
- Box Feels Loose: Ensure the mounting bracket is securely clipped to the stud and the box is firmly attached to the bracket.
- Difficulty Installing Devices: Verify that the box is correctly sized for the devices being installed and that no wires are obstructing the mounting screws.
