2. General Safety Instructions

WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations, and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

2.1. Work Area Safety

  • Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2.2. Electrical Safety

  • Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

2.3. Personal Safety

  • Always wear eye protection. Use safety glasses, goggles, or a face shield.
  • Wear hearing protection when operating power tools for extended periods.
  • Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts.
  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.

4. Setup

4.1. Attaching the Auxiliary Handle

The auxiliary handle can be rotated 360 degrees for optimal positioning. Loosen the handle by twisting it counter-clockwise, position it as desired, and then tighten it by twisting clockwise until secure. Ensure it is firmly attached before operation to maintain control.

4.2. Installing/Removing Drill Bits

  1. Ensure the drill is unplugged from the power source.
  2. Insert the chuck key into one of the holes on the chuck.
  3. Rotate the chuck key counter-clockwise to open the chuck jaws.
  4. Insert the drill bit fully into the chuck, ensuring it is centered.
  5. Rotate the chuck key clockwise to tighten the chuck jaws firmly around the drill bit. Remove the chuck key before operating the drill.
  6. To remove a drill bit, reverse these steps.

4.3. Setting the Depth Stop

Insert the depth stop rod into the hole on the auxiliary handle. Adjust the rod to the desired drilling depth and secure it by tightening the auxiliary handle. This prevents drilling deeper than intended.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Powering On/Off and Speed Control

  • To Start: Press the variable speed trigger. The speed increases as you press the trigger further.
  • To Stop: Release the variable speed trigger.
  • Continuous Operation: For prolonged use, press the trigger and then press the lock-on button. To release, press the trigger again.
  • Pre-setting Speed: Use the speed control dial (Figure 3.3) to set the maximum rotational speed before starting the drill. This is useful for specific materials or tasks requiring consistent speed.

5.2. Selecting Drilling Mode

The Ingco ID8508 offers two drilling modes:

  • Drilling Mode (Drill Icon): For drilling in wood, metal, plastics, and other materials where impact action is not required. Set the mode selector switch (Figure 3.2) to the drill icon.
  • Impact Drilling Mode (Hammer Icon): For drilling in masonry, concrete, and brick. Set the mode selector switch (Figure 3.2) to the hammer icon. This mode combines rotation with a hammering action.

Always select the appropriate mode for the material you are working with.

5.3. Forward/Reverse Rotation

The forward/reverse switch, typically located above the trigger, allows you to change the direction of rotation. Use forward rotation for drilling and reverse rotation for removing jammed drill bits or driving/removing screws (if using appropriate accessories).

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Ingco ID8508 Impact Drill.

6.1. Cleaning

  • Always unplug the tool before cleaning.
  • Keep the ventilation openings clear to prevent motor overheating. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean dust and debris from the vents.
  • Wipe the tool housing with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

6.2. Carbon Brushes

The carbon brushes are wear parts. If the motor sparks excessively or the drill loses power, the carbon brushes may need replacement. This should ideally be performed by a qualified service technician.

6.3. Storage

Store the drill in a dry, secure location out of reach of children. Protect it from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and moisture.
