2. Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when operating any power equipment. Failure to follow these safety guidelines can result in serious injury or death.
- Fuel Safety: Gasoline is highly flammable. Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke or allow open flames near the pump. Store gasoline in approved containers away from ignition sources.
- Exhaust Fumes: Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless gas that can be fatal. Operate the pump only in well-ventilated outdoor areas. Never operate indoors or in enclosed spaces.
- Hot Surfaces: The engine and muffler become very hot during operation and remain hot for some time after shutdown. Avoid contact to prevent burns.
- Moving Parts: Keep hands, feet, and clothing away from moving parts such as the recoil starter and engine fan.
- Electrical Safety: While this is a gasoline pump, ensure no electrical components (if any accessories are used) come into contact with water.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate safety gear, including eye protection, gloves, and sturdy footwear.
- Stable Placement: Always operate the pump on a firm, level surface to prevent tipping.
- Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the operating area.
3. Product Components
Familiarize yourself with the main components of your Ingco GWP402 water pump:
- Engine: 9 HP OHV gasoline engine, providing power for the pump.
- Pump Housing: Contains the impeller and volute, responsible for water movement.
- Fuel Tank: Holds gasoline for engine operation, equipped with a strainer.
- Oil Fill Cap/Dipstick: For checking and adding engine oil.
- Recoil Starter: Manual pull-start mechanism for the engine.
- Choke Lever: Used for starting a cold engine.
- Throttle Lever: Controls engine speed.
- Suction Port: Inlet for water to enter the pump (100mm/4").
- Discharge Port: Outlet for water to exit the pump (100mm/4").
- Frame: Full tubular wrap-around frame for protection and portability.
4. Setup
Proper setup is crucial for optimal performance and safety.
4.1 Unpacking and Placement
- Carefully remove the pump from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage.
- Place the pump on a stable, level surface in a well-ventilated outdoor area, away from any flammable materials.
4.2 Connecting Hoses
- Suction Hose: Connect a reinforced suction hose (100mm/4" diameter) to the suction port. Ensure all connections are airtight to prevent air leaks, which can affect priming. The suction hose should be as short and straight as possible.
- Discharge Hose: Connect a discharge hose (100mm/4" diameter) to the discharge port. Secure all connections with clamps.
- Ensure the end of the suction hose is submerged in the water source and is equipped with a strainer to prevent debris from entering the pump.
4.3 Adding Engine Oil
- The engine is shipped without oil. Fill the engine crankcase with approximately 1.1 liters (0.3 gallons) of SAE 10W-30 engine oil.
- Use the dipstick to ensure the oil level is between the minimum and maximum marks. Do not overfill.
4.4 Adding Fuel
- Fill the fuel tank with fresh, unleaded gasoline. The fuel tank capacity is approximately 6 liters (1.6 gallons).
- Do not overfill the tank. Leave space for fuel expansion.
- Ensure the fuel cap is securely tightened.
5. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for starting and operating your water pump.
5.1 Priming the Pump
Before starting the engine, the pump casing must be filled with water to create a vacuum for suction.
- Remove the priming cap located on top of the pump housing.
- Slowly fill the pump casing with clean water until it overflows.
- Replace the priming cap securely.
5.2 Starting the Engine (Recoil Start)
- Ensure the fuel valve is open.
- Move the choke lever to the 'CLOSED' position (for cold starts). For a warm engine, the choke may not be necessary.
- Move the throttle lever to the 'FAST' position.
- Grasp the recoil starter handle firmly and pull it slowly until resistance is felt, then pull sharply and quickly. Repeat until the engine starts.
- Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the 'OPEN' position as the engine warms up.
- Adjust the throttle to the desired operating speed.
5.3 Stopping the Engine
- Move the throttle lever to the 'SLOW' or 'IDLE' position and allow the engine to run for a few minutes to cool down.
- Turn the engine switch to the 'OFF' position.
- Close the fuel valve.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your pump.
- Engine Oil: Check oil level before each use. Change oil after the first 20 hours of operation, then every 50 hours or annually.
- Air Filter: Clean or replace the air filter element every 50 hours or more frequently in dusty conditions.
- Spark Plug: Inspect and clean the spark plug every 100 hours. Replace if electrodes are worn or fouled.
- Fuel Filter/Strainer: Periodically check and clean the fuel tank strainer.
- Pump Housing: After each use, drain any remaining water from the pump to prevent freezing in cold weather and to avoid corrosion. Flush with clean water if pumping dirty water.
- Storage: For long-term storage, drain the fuel tank and carburetor, or add a fuel stabilizer. Remove the spark plug and pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder, then pull the recoil starter a few times to distribute the oil.
7. Troubleshooting
Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
