Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your ONKYO FR-N7TX CD/MD Tuner Amplifier System. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the unit to ensure proper and safe operation. Keep this manual for future reference.
Setup
Before connecting the unit, ensure that the power is turned off for all audio components. Place the FR-N7TX on a stable, level surface with adequate ventilation.
Connecting Speakers
Connect your speakers to the speaker terminals on the rear of the FR-N7TX. Ensure correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative) for optimal sound quality. This unit is designed for speaker systems with an impedance of 4 ohms or higher.
Connecting Antennas
For FM reception, connect the supplied FM indoor antenna to the FM antenna terminal. For AM reception, connect the supplied AM loop antenna to the AM antenna terminals. Extend the FM antenna fully for best reception.
Connecting Other Audio Devices
Use appropriate audio cables to connect external devices (e.g., cassette deck, turntable with pre-amp) to the analog input terminals (LINE IN 1, LINE IN 2) or the stereo mini input terminal on the front panel. Digital audio sources can be connected to the optical digital input terminal.
Power Connection
After all other connections are made, plug the power cord into a wall outlet. The unit will enter standby mode.

Operating Instructions
Basic Operation
- Power On/Off: Press the POWER button on the front panel or remote control.
- Input Selection: Use the INPUT SELECTOR knob or buttons to choose between CD, MD, TUNER, LINE 1, LINE 2, or DIGITAL inputs.
- Volume Control: Rotate the VOLUME knob on the front panel or use the volume buttons on the remote control to adjust the sound level.
CD Playback
- Press the CD button to select the CD input.
- Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the CD tray.
- Place a CD (or music CD-R/RW) on the tray with the label side up.
- Press OPEN/CLOSE again to close the tray.
- Press PLAY to start playback. Use SKIP buttons for track navigation and PAUSE/STOP as needed.
MD Playback and Recording
- Press the MD button to select the MD input.
- Insert a MiniDisc into the MD slot.
- Press PLAY for playback.
- For recording, select the desired input source (e.g., CD, TUNER, LINE IN).
- Press the REC button. The DLA LINK function can automatically set the optimal recording level for digital sources.
- This unit supports Hi-MD AUDIO for uncompressed PCM recording, allowing up to approximately 34 hours of recording time in Hi-LP mode with a Hi-MD disc.
Tuner Operation (FM/AM)
- Press the TUNER button.
- Use the TUNING buttons to manually tune to a station or press AUTO TUNE for automatic station search.
- To preset stations, tune to the desired frequency, then press MEMORY followed by a preset number. The unit supports 30 FM/AM auto presets.
Tone Control and Super Bass
Adjust the BASS and TREBLE controls to fine-tune the sound. The Super Bass circuit provides enhanced low-frequency response. The 7-step tone control circuit allows for precise audio customization.
Program Timer
The unit features a program timer function with up to 4 modes, allowing you to set specific times for power on/off and source selection.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your FR-N7TX system.
Cleaning the Unit
Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, dampen the cloth with a mild detergent solution and wipe gently, then dry with a clean cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, alcohol, benzene, or thinners, as these can damage the finish.
CD/MD Care
Handle CDs and MiniDiscs by their edges. Keep them clean and free of dust and fingerprints. Store them in their cases when not in use to prevent scratches.
Ventilation
Ensure that the ventilation openings on the top and sides of the unit are not blocked. Proper airflow is essential to prevent overheating.
