Setup Instructions

  1. Connect the Device: Locate an available USB port on your computer or POS system. Insert the USB-A connector of the SREDKey's integrated cable into the USB port.
  2. Driver Installation: The SREDKey is designed to function as a USB-Keyboard device and typically does not require specific driver installation on most modern operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux). It should be recognized automatically as a Human Interface Device (HID).
  3. Verify Connection: Once connected, the device should be powered on. Some systems may provide a notification that a new device has been detected and is ready for use.
  4. Software Integration: Integrate the SREDKey with your existing POS software or application. Refer to your software's documentation for specific setup procedures related to external keypads and card readers. The device will send encrypted data directly to the application.

Operating Instructions

Using the MagStripe Card Reader:

  1. Card Orientation: Ensure the magnetic stripe on the card is facing the correct direction (typically towards the LED indicator or as indicated by an arrow on the device).
  2. Swiping a Card: Insert the card into the card slot and swipe it smoothly and consistently through the reader in one continuous motion.
  3. Data Transmission: Upon a successful swipe, the encrypted card data will be transmitted to your connected system. The device may provide an audible beep or visual indicator (e.g., LED flash) to confirm a successful read.

Using the Keypad:

  1. Data Entry: Use the keypad to manually enter numerical data, suchs as card numbers, PINs (if applicable and supported by your system), or other required information.
  2. Secure Input: The keypad is designed for secure data entry, encrypting the input before transmission to protect sensitive information.
  3. Confirmation: Follow the prompts on your POS software for confirming entered data.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: To clean the exterior of the SREDKey, use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the device.
  • Card Slot Cleaning: Periodically clean the card reader slot using a specialized magnetic stripe reader cleaning card to remove dust and debris that may accumulate and affect reading performance.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the device in a clean, dry environment away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
  • Avoid Liquids: Do not expose the device to liquids. In case of accidental liquid exposure, disconnect it immediately and allow it to dry completely before attempting to use it again.
