1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Blackstar Fly 3 Bass mini amplifier. This compact and portable 3-watt amplifier is designed to provide a full bass tone for practice, home recording, and on-the-go use. Its innovative design and features ensure a rich sound experience despite its small size.

2. Setup

Powering the Amplifier

The Blackstar Fly 3 Bass amplifier can be powered by batteries or an optional power supply (sold separately).

• Battery Installation: Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the amplifier. Insert 6x AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
• Power Supply (Optional): If using a power supply, connect it to the DC input jack on the rear of the amplifier. Use only a compatible Blackstar power supply to avoid damage.

Initial Connection

1. Ensure the amplifier's power switch is in the 'OFF' position.
2. Connect your bass guitar to the INPUT jack using a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable.
3. If desired, connect an MP3 player or other audio source to the MP3 / LINE IN jack using a 3.5mm stereo cable.
4. If using headphones for silent practice, connect them to the EM. OUT & PHONES jack.
5. Turn the VOLUME knob to its minimum setting before powering on.

3. Controls and Functions

• INPUT: 1/4-inch jack for connecting your bass guitar.
• GAIN: Controls the input level and the amount of overdrive. Turning this up will increase distortion. The 'OD' button activates the overdrive circuit.
• EQ (DEPTH): Adjusts the overall tonal character of your bass sound. Experiment with this control to find your preferred sound.
• COMP (RATIO): Controls the compression level. Compression helps to even out the dynamics of your playing. The 'SUB' button activates the Sub control.
• SUB Control: When activated via the 'SUB' button, this control adds a low-frequency harmonic generator to your signal, enhancing the perceived bass depth and fullness.
• VOLUME: Master volume control for the amplifier output.
• POWER: On/Off switch for the amplifier. The red LED indicates power status.

4. Operating Instructions

Playing Your Bass Guitar

1. Ensure your bass guitar is connected to the INPUT jack.
2. Turn the VOLUME knob to its minimum.
3. Switch the POWER to 'ON'. The red LED will illuminate.
4. Slowly increase the VOLUME to your desired listening level.
5. Adjust the GAIN, EQ (DEPTH), and COMP (RATIO) controls to shape your tone. Engage the 'OD' button for overdrive or the 'SUB' button for enhanced bass.

Using the MP3 / Line Input

The MP3 / Line Input allows you to play along with your favorite tracks.

1. Connect your external audio device (e.g., smartphone, MP3 player) to the MP3 / LINE IN jack using a 3.5mm stereo cable.
2. Start playback on your audio device.
3. Adjust the volume on your audio device to balance it with your bass guitar's volume. The amplifier's VOLUME control will affect both signals.

Silent Practice / Recording

For silent practice or direct recording, use the Emulated Line Out & Phones jack.

1. Connect your headphones or recording interface to the EM. OUT & PHONES jack.
2. The amplifier's speaker will be muted when headphones are connected.
3. Adjust the VOLUME knob to control the headphone or line output level.
