2. Safety Instructions

Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the machine.

3. Components Overview

The Scheppach BG200W grinder consists of several key components designed for efficient and safe operation:

Adjustable Workpiece Rest and Spark Protection

4. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the grinder and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage.
  2. Placement: Position the grinder on a sturdy, level workbench or surface. Ensure there is adequate space around the unit for safe operation and ventilation.
  3. Secure Mounting: For added stability, the grinder can be bolted to the workbench using the mounting holes in the base.
  4. Adjust Workpiece Rests: Adjust the workpiece rests for both the dry and wet grinding wheels. Ensure they are positioned close to the grinding wheel (approximately 1.5 mm gap) but not touching, and are parallel to the wheel's surface. Tighten securely.
  5. Adjust Spark Guard: Position the transparent spark guard on the dry grinding side to effectively deflect sparks away from the operator. Ensure it is securely fastened.
  6. Fill Water Tank (for Wet Grinding): If using the wet grinding function, fill the integrated water tank with clean water until the lower part of the wet grinding wheel is submerged. This ensures proper cooling and lubrication during operation.

5. Operating Instructions

The BG200W offers both dry and wet grinding capabilities. Always ensure the grinder is plugged into a suitable power outlet before operation.

5.1 Dry Grinding

Use the dry grinding wheel for rough shaping, rapid material removal, or sharpening tools that do not require a fine edge or are not susceptible to heat damage.

  1. Ensure the spark guard is correctly positioned.
  2. Turn on the grinder using the On/Off switch. Allow the dry wheel to reach full speed.
  3. Gently bring the workpiece into contact with the dry grinding wheel, using the workpiece rest for support. Apply light, consistent pressure.
  4. Move the workpiece evenly across the face of the wheel to ensure even wear and a consistent grind.
  5. Monitor for excessive heat buildup on the workpiece. If it becomes too hot to touch, allow it to cool before continuing.

5.2 Wet Grinding

The wet grinding wheel is ideal for precise sharpening of knives, chisels, and other tools where a very sharp, fine edge is desired and heat buildup must be avoided.

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled to the appropriate level, submerging the lower part of the wet grinding wheel.
  2. Turn on the grinder. The wet wheel will rotate slowly.
  3. Using the workpiece rest, gently bring the workpiece into contact with the wet grinding wheel. The water will cool the workpiece and carry away grinding particles.
  4. Apply light, even pressure and maintain a consistent angle. The slow rotation of the wet wheel allows for greater control and precision.
  5. Periodically check the sharpness and progress of your grind.
