- Position the cuff, leaving approximately 0.5 inch between the cuff and the bottom of your palm.
- Firmly wrap the cuff around your wrist. The Cuff Wrap Guide feature will alert you if the cuff is wrapped too loosely.
2. Taking a Measurement
For accurate readings, ensure your wrist is at heart level. The Heart Zone Guidance feature activates inflation when your wrist is at the correct height.
- Sit comfortably with your back supported and feet flat on the floor.
- Rest your arm on a table or firm surface, ensuring the monitor is at heart level.
- Press the START/STOP button to begin the measurement.
- Remain still and quiet during the measurement.
- The monitor will display your Systolic (SYS), Diastolic (DIA), and Pulse readings.
3. Understanding Display Symbols
- SYS mmHg / DIA mmHg: Your systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings.
- Pulse /min: Your pulse rate per minute.
- Irregular Heartbeat Symbol: Appears if an irregular heartbeat is detected during measurement.
- Hypertension Indicator: Alerts you if systolic/diastolic measurements are above the normal range (130 mmHg or above systolic, and/or 80 mmHg or above diastolic).
- Advanced Averaging: Automatically averages up to your last 3 readings over a 10-minute period for a more accurate picture.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your Omron Blood Pressure Monitor, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Wipe the monitor and cuff with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit in water.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Always replace both batteries at the same time with new 'AAA' alkaline batteries.
- Storage: Store the monitor in its provided carrying case when not in use to protect it from dust and damage. Avoid extreme temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your monitor, try the following common solutions:
- Error Code E5 (Pulse Not Detected): This often indicates the cuff is not applied correctly or there was too much movement during measurement. Re-apply the cuff snugly and remain still.
- Inconsistent Readings: Blood pressure varies constantly due to factors like stress, time of day, and cuff placement. Ensure you are following all instructions for proper cuff application and body position (wrist at heart level, sitting upright).
- No Display: Check if batteries are inserted correctly and are not depleted. Replace batteries if necessary.
