1. Introduction

The Naturewater NW-RO50-BX23 is a 5-stage reverse osmosis (RO) system designed to provide clean, purified drinking water. This system effectively removes up to 96% of impurities, including heavy metals, pesticides, bacteria, and other contaminants, through a physical filtration process that requires no chemical additives. This manual provides essential information for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of your RO system.

3.1. Components

3.2. 5-Stage Filtration Process

The system employs a comprehensive 5-stage filtration process:

1. 1st Stage: 5 µ Sediment Filter – Acts as a pre-filter, removing sand, lime, rust, and other particles down to 5 microns in size.
2. 2nd Stage: Activated Carbon Block Filter – Eliminates a large portion of toxins from raw water, including pesticides, asbestos fibers, chlorine, degradation products, and multicellular microorganisms.
3. 3rd Stage: Granular Activated Carbon Sediment Filter – Filters very fine particles and protects the RO membrane from clogging.
4. 4th Stage: RO Membrane – The core of the system. It removes approximately 96% of pollutants and foreign substances such as aluminum, ammonia, calcium, chromium, cyanide, zinc, cadmium, manganese, magnesium, copper, nickel, lead, silver, strontium, iron, uranium, pesticides, bacteria, viruses, drug residues, algae, and spores.

4. Setup and Installation

The Naturewater NW-RO50-BX23 system is designed for easy installation and can be connected directly to your water supply. It features a compact housing suitable for under-sink placement or wall mounting.

4.1. Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully unpack all components and inspect them for any damage. Ensure all parts listed in Section 3.1 are present.

4.2. Required Tools (Not Included)

4.3. Installation Steps

1. Choose Location: Select a suitable location under the sink or on a wall, ensuring easy access for maintenance and connection to water lines and drain.
2. Install Feed Water Adapter: Turn off the cold water supply. Install the feed water adapter (usually a T-valve) to the cold water line under your sink. Use Teflon tape on threaded connections.
3. Install Drain Saddle: Attach the drain saddle to the drainpipe, ensuring it is above the P-trap. Drill a hole in the drainpipe for the wastewater line.
4. Mount Faucet: Drill a hole in your sink or countertop for the RO faucet. Secure the faucet in place.
5. Connect Tubing: Connect the appropriate color-coded tubing from the RO unit to the feed water adapter, drain saddle, faucet, and storage tank. Refer to the color-coded ports on the unit.
6. Install Storage Tank: Place the storage tank in a convenient location. Connect the tank's water valve to the RO unit.
7. Flush System: Before first use, flush the system according to the operating instructions to remove carbon fines and air.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed, the Naturewater NW-RO50-BX23 system operates automatically to produce purified water.

5.1. Initial Startup and Flushing

1. Ensure all connections are tight and the feed water valve is open.
2. Open the RO faucet. Water will begin to drip out. This initial water may be discolored due to carbon fines.
3. Allow the system to flush for at least 30 minutes, or until the water runs clear.
4. Close the RO faucet and allow the storage tank to fill completely. This may take several hours.
5. Once the tank is full, open the RO faucet and drain the entire tank. This helps to fully flush the system and activate the membrane.
6. Repeat the tank filling and draining process 2-3 times before consuming the water.

5.2. Daily Operation

The system will automatically produce up to 190 liters (50 GPD) of purified water per day, refilling the storage tank as water is consumed. The integrated booster pump ensures optimal water pressure for efficient filtration.

Wastewater Ratio: The system operates with a typical wastewater ratio of 1:3 (1 part pure water to 3 parts wastewater). This is normal for reverse osmosis systems and is necessary for flushing contaminants from the membrane.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your Naturewater RO system.

6.1. Filter Replacement Schedule

The lifespan of filters depends on water quality and usage. General recommendations are:

• Sediment Filter (1st Stage): Replace every 3-6 months.
• Activated Carbon Block Filter (2nd Stage): Replace every 6-12 months.
• Granular Activated Carbon Sediment Filter (3rd Stage): Replace every 6-12 months.
• RO Membrane (4th Stage): Replace every 2-3 years, or when purified water production significantly decreases.
• Post-Activated Carbon Filter (5th Stage): Replace every 12 months.

6.2. Filter Replacement Procedure

1. Turn off the feed water supply and close the tank valve.
2. Open the RO faucet to relieve pressure.
3. Disconnect the power supply to the booster pump.
4. Use the filter wrench to unscrew the filter housings.
5. Remove old filters and dispose of them properly.
6. Insert new filters, ensuring O-rings are properly seated.
7. Screw the housings back on tightly by hand, then use the wrench for a quarter turn.
8. Reconnect power, open the tank valve and feed water supply slowly.
9. Check for leaks. Flush the system as described in Section 5.1.
