1. Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the DAP Audio DRX-18BA Active Subwoofer. This powerful 18-inch active subwoofer is designed to deliver robust low-frequency sound reinforcement for various professional audio applications. To ensure optimal performance, longevity, and safe operation, please read this manual thoroughly before setup and use. Keep this manual for future reference.
2. Safety Instructions
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent electric shock, fire, or injury.
- Power Supply: Connect the unit only to a grounded mains socket with the correct voltage (110-120V or 220-240V AC, 50/60Hz) as indicated on the unit.
- Grounding: Ensure the power cord's grounding pin is always connected. Do not defeat the grounding purpose.
- Moisture: Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the unit.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation. Do not block ventilation openings. Maintain a minimum distance of 10 cm (4 inches) from walls or other objects.
- Heat: Do not place the unit near heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
- Cables: Protect power cords from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
- Servicing: Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
- Weight: The unit is heavy (approximately 36.72 kg). Use proper lifting techniques or assistance when moving to prevent injury.
- Placement: Place the subwoofer on a stable, level surface capable of supporting its weight.
3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the subwoofer from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage that may have occurred during transit. Retain the original packaging for future transport or storage.
3.2 Physical Placement
Position the subwoofer on a firm, level surface. For optimal bass response, consider placing the subwoofer in a corner or near a wall. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for proper ventilation, especially around the rear panel where the amplifier and cooling fan are located.

3.3 Connections
Before making any connections, ensure the subwoofer's power switch is in the OFF position and the volume control is set to minimum.
- Audio Input: Connect your audio source (e.g., mixer, audio interface) to the subwoofer's input connectors. The DRX-18BA features XLR Combo Female Left and XLR Female Right input connectors. Use balanced XLR cables for best performance.
- Audio Output: Use the 2 XLR Male L/R output connectors to link the subwoofer to full-range loudspeakers or other audio equipment. These outputs typically pass through the input signal, often with a high-pass filter applied if the HPF bypass is not engaged.
- Power Connection: Once all audio connections are made, connect the supplied power cable to the AC IN socket on the rear panel and then to a suitable grounded mains outlet.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Controls and Indicators
- Volume: Adjusts the overall output level of the subwoofer. Start with this control at minimum and gradually increase to the desired level.
- Power Switch: Turns the subwoofer ON or OFF. Always turn on the subwoofer last in your audio chain and turn it off first.
- Ground Lift: Helps eliminate hum or buzz caused by ground loops. Engage this switch if you experience such noise.
- Phase: Reverses the phase of the subwoofer's output (0° or 180°). Adjust this to achieve optimal acoustic alignment with your full-range speakers, ensuring the bass frequencies are in phase.
- HPF Bypass: Engages or bypasses the internal High-Pass Filter (HPF). When engaged, the HPF typically filters out frequencies below 800 Hz from the output signal sent to linked full-range speakers.
- Power Indicator: Illuminates when the unit is powered ON.
- Clip Indicator: Illuminates when the input signal is too high, causing distortion. If this light flashes frequently or stays lit, reduce the input volume from your source or the subwoofer's volume control.
4.2 Basic Operation
- Ensure all connections are secure and correct.
- Set the subwoofer's Volume control to its minimum position.
- Turn on your audio source and any connected full-range speakers.
- Flip the Power switch on the DRX-18BA to the ON position. The Power indicator should illuminate.
- Gradually increase the Volume control on the subwoofer until the desired bass level is achieved.
- Monitor the Clip indicator. If it flashes excessively, reduce the input signal level or the subwoofer's volume.
- Adjust the Phase switch to find the setting that provides the most coherent and impactful bass response in your listening environment.
- When finished, turn off the subwoofer first, then your full-range speakers and audio source.
5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your subwoofer.
- Cleaning: Disconnect the power before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes.
- Ventilation: Regularly check that the ventilation openings and the cooling fan on the rear panel are free from dust and debris. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clear any blockages.
- Storage: If storing the unit for an extended period, place it in its original packaging in a dry, temperature-controlled environment.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the power cord and audio cables for any signs of damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
