4. Operation

4.1 Adjusting Grind Size

The Porlex Mini offers a wide range of grind settings, suitable for various brewing methods from fine espresso to coarse French press. Adjust the grind fineness by turning the adjustment nut at the bottom of the burr assembly.

  1. Access Adjustment Nut: Unscrew the collection container to access the grind adjustment nut.
  2. Adjust: Turn the star-shaped grind adjustment nut clockwise for a finer grind and counter-clockwise for a coarser grind. Each 'click' represents a step in grind size.
  3. Test Grind: Perform a small test grind to verify the desired fineness before grinding a full batch of beans.

4.2 Grinding Coffee

Once the desired grind size is set, you can proceed with grinding your coffee beans.

  1. Add Beans: Open the top lid and pour whole coffee beans into the hopper. The bean container has a capacity of approximately 20g of beans.
  2. Attach Handle: Securely attach the handle to the grinder shaft.
  3. Grind: Hold the grinder firmly with one hand and turn the handle clockwise with the other to begin grinding. Continue turning until all beans have passed through the burrs and no resistance is felt.
  4. Collect Grounds: Unscrew the bottom collection container to retrieve your freshly ground coffee. The collection container holds approximately 30g of ground coffee.

Regular cleaning is crucial for maintaining optimal performance, preventing clogs, and ensuring the longevity of your grinder.

  1. Disassemble: Remove the handle, unscrew the bottom collection container, and carefully remove the inner ceramic burr and spring assembly.
  2. Clean Burrs: Use a small brush (a stiff toothbrush works well) or a dry cloth to remove any residual coffee grounds from the ceramic burrs and the inside of the main body.
  3. Wash Components: Wash the collection container, handle, and ceramic burrs with warm, soapy water. Important: Do not wash the main stainless steel body with water; wipe it clean with a damp cloth if necessary, then dry immediately.
  4. Dry Thoroughly: Ensure all washed parts are completely dry before reassembly to prevent rust or mold growth. Air dry or use a clean towel.
  5. Reassemble: Carefully reassemble all components in reverse order of disassembly. Ensure the burrs are properly aligned.
