1. Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the installation and use of the Performance Accessories 3-inch Body Lift Kit, Model PA673. This kit is designed for Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 Gas 2WD and 4WD models manufactured between 1997 and 2001, excluding 1999-2000 Sport models. The kit raises the vehicle's body by 3 inches, allowing for the use of larger diameter tires without modifying the factory suspension system or altering original equipment (OE) ride characteristics.
The kit includes high-pressure fiberglass reinforced nylon lift blocks, laser-cut and powder-coated front bumper relocation brackets, a CNC machined and zinc-plated steering extension, high-strength hardware, and various extension brackets. Installation typically takes 7-8 hours.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: Improper installation or use of this product can lead to serious injury or death. Always follow all instructions carefully and use appropriate safety equipment.
- Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning installation.
- Ensure the vehicle is securely supported on jack stands or a lift before working underneath.
- Disconnect the battery before performing any electrical work.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
- Some steps may require welding. Ensure welding is performed by a qualified professional if you are not experienced.
- After installation, perform a thorough inspection of all components and connections.
- Have the vehicle's alignment checked by a professional after installation.
3. Parts List

Note: Rear bumper brackets (PN-60023) and urethane wheel-well extensions (Gap Guards 2WD PN-6615 or 4WD PN-6616) are sold separately and are not included in this kit.
4. Installation
Installation of the PA673 body lift kit typically requires 7-8 hours. It is recommended to have a second person assist with the installation. Basic mechanical knowledge and tools are required. Some steps may require welding.
4.1. Pre-Installation Steps
- Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
- Remove the front and rear bumpers.
- Loosen all body mount bolts but do not remove them completely.
- Identify and disconnect any hoses, wires, or linkages that may be stretched or damaged when the body is lifted (e.g., steering shaft, fuel filler neck, brake lines, electrical harnesses).
4.2. Lifting the Body
- Using a floor jack with a wooden block, carefully lift one side of the vehicle's body a few inches at a time, ensuring no components are binding.
- Insert the fiberglass reinforced nylon body blocks between the body and the frame at each body mount location.
- Replace the original body mount bolts with the longer high-strength hardware provided in the kit. Torque to manufacturer specifications.
- Repeat the process for the other side of the vehicle.
4.3. Component Relocation and Extension
- Install the CNC machined and zinc-plated steering extension to accommodate the increased distance between the steering column and the steering box.
- Attach the laser-cut and powder-coated front bumper relocation brackets to reposition the front bumper to its new height relative to the body.
- Reconnect all previously disconnected hoses, wires, and linkages, using the provided extension brackets where necessary. Ensure all connections are secure and free from tension.
- If purchased separately, install the rear bumper brackets (PN-60023) and Gap Guards (PN-6615 or PN-6616).
4.4. Post-Installation
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Start the vehicle and check for any warning lights or unusual noises.
- Test all vehicle functions, including steering, braking, and lighting.
- Drive the vehicle slowly for a short distance, listening for any abnormal sounds or feelings.
- It is highly recommended to have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure proper vehicle handling and tire wear.
5. Operating Considerations
The Performance Accessories body lift kit is designed to maintain the factory smooth ride and does not alter the OEM suspension geometry or factory stability control parameters. However, raising the vehicle's body can affect the center of gravity, though less significantly than a comparable suspension lift.
- Be aware of the increased vehicle height, especially when entering garages, parking structures, or areas with low overhead clearance.
- The installation allows for larger diameter tires, which may affect speedometer accuracy. Consider recalibrating your speedometer if installing significantly larger tires.
- Always drive responsibly and be mindful of the vehicle's modified characteristics.
6. Maintenance
Regular inspection of the body lift components is crucial for safety and longevity.
- Periodically check all body mount bolts for proper torque. Re-torque if necessary, especially after the first 500 miles of driving.
- Inspect the body blocks for any signs of wear, cracking, or damage.
- Examine all relocated and extended components (steering extension, bumper brackets, hoses, wires) for proper function, security, and signs of rubbing or stress.
- Keep the components clean from excessive dirt and debris.
7. Troubleshooting
- Vibrations after installation: Check all driveline angles and universal joints. Ensure all bolts are properly torqued. An alignment may be necessary.
- Steering issues (loose or stiff): Re-check the steering extension installation and ensure all steering components are properly connected and torqued. Verify no binding occurs.
- Body/frame contact: Inspect all areas where the body and frame are close. Ensure all components were properly relocated or extended. This may indicate an issue with block placement or insufficient clearance for certain components.
- Missing parts: If any parts are missing from the kit upon arrival, contact Performance Accessories customer support immediately.
