4. Setup and Initial Connection

4.1 Connecting the Tester

  1. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is OFF and all accessory loads (lights, radio, etc.) are turned off. Close all vehicle doors.
  2. Connect the red positive (+) clamp to the positive terminal of the battery.
  3. Connect the black negative (-) clamp to the negative terminal of the battery.
  4. Ensure both clamps have good, secure contact with the battery terminals for accurate results.
  5. The tester will power on automatically once connected.

Important Note: The FOXWELL BT705 is designed for 12V and 24V systems. It cannot test 6V batteries or 24V batteries alone (it tests 24V systems, not individual 24V batteries).

5. Operating Modes

After connecting the tester, the main menu will appear. Use the arrow keys to navigate and the ENTER button to select.

5.1 Battery Test

This test assesses the overall health and charge of the battery.

  1. From the Main Menu, select "Battery Test" and press ENTER.
  2. Select the appropriate voltage system (12 Volt System or 24 Volt System) and press ENTER.
  3. Select the battery location (In Vehicle or Out of Vehicle) and press ENTER.
  4. Select the Post Type (Top Post or Side Post) and press ENTER.
  5. Select the Battery Type (e.g., Regular Flooded, AGM, GEL) and press ENTER.
  6. Select the Battery Standard (e.g., CCA, CA) and press ENTER.
  7. Enter the Battery Rating (CCA value) as indicated on the battery label using the arrow keys, then press ENTER.
  8. The tester will display the battery test results, including SOH, SOC, measured CCA, and voltage.

5.2 Cranking System Test

This test evaluates the vehicle's starter performance.

  1. After the Battery Test, the tester may prompt you for a Cranking Test, or you can select it from the menu.
  2. The screen will instruct you to "Start the Engine".
  3. Start the vehicle's engine. The tester will automatically measure cranking voltage and time.
  4. The results will indicate if the cranking system is normal or if there are issues.

5.3 Charging System Test

This test checks the alternator's output and the overall charging system.

  1. After the Cranking Test, the tester will automatically proceed to the Charging System Test, or you can select it from the menu.
  2. The screen will instruct you to "Rev Engine with Loads OFF". Briefly rev the engine to about 2500 RPM for 5 seconds, then let it idle.
  3. The tester will then instruct you to "Turn on Loads". Turn on high beams, fan, and other electrical accessories to create a load on the system.
  4. The tester will display results for no-load voltage, loaded voltage, and ripple, indicating the alternator's performance and any potential issues.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the tester's casing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the device in its hard carrying case in a dry, cool environment when not in use to protect it from dust and physical damage.
  • Cable Care: Inspect the test cables and clamps regularly for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Replace if necessary.

7. Troubleshooting
