H-Tronic WPS 5000 Water Level Switch

Instruction Manual - Model 30273

1. Introduction

The H-Tronic WPS 5000 electronic differential level switch is designed for automatic level monitoring of conductive liquids in various containers such as wells, water tanks, and reservoirs. It is suitable for use with tanks made of concrete, plastic, or metal, and can monitor liquids including rain, pipe, fresh, waste, cooling, heating, and recirculated water. This device allows for precise control of pumps or other connected equipment based on detected water levels.

2. Safety Instructions

Please read these safety instructions carefully before installation and operation to prevent personal injury or damage to the device.

  • Ensure the device is disconnected from the main power supply before any installation, maintenance, or cleaning.
  • Installation should only be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with local electrical regulations.
  • Do not expose the control unit to moisture or extreme temperatures outside its specified operating range (-15 °C to +40 °C).
  • The sensor cable must be routed and secured to prevent damage or accidental disconnection.
  • Only connect devices to the integrated socket that do not exceed the maximum switching capacity of 2500 W.
  • Do not modify the device. Unauthorized modifications can lead to electric shock, fire, or damage.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all components are present upon unpacking:

  • H-Tronic WPS 5000 Control Unit
  • 30-meter Sensor Cable with Probe
  • Instruction Manual

4. Product Features

  • Automatic level monitoring for conductive liquids.
  • Operating temperature range: -15 °C to +40 °C.
  • Relay configurable as normally open (opener) or normally closed (closer).
  • Freely selectable switching point.
  • Adjustable ON/OFF delay from 1 to 999 seconds (approximately 2.8 hours).
  • Remote measurement up to 30 meters via a 2-wire cable.
  • Input for water sensor or float switch (parallel connection possible).
  • Maximum switching capacity: 2500 W.

5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Mounting the Control Unit

The control unit should be mounted in a dry, protected location, away from direct sunlight and moisture. It can be easily attached to a wall using two screws (not included). Ensure sufficient space for cable connections and ventilation.

5.2 Connecting the Sensor Cable

Connect the provided 30-meter sensor cable to the designated terminals on the control unit. Ensure a secure connection. The sensor cable allows for remote measurement of water levels.

5.3 Positioning the Sensor

The sensor's position determines its function:

  • Low-Level Detection: Place the sensor at the desired minimum water level. When the water drops below this level, the pump (connected to the control unit) will automatically activate to refill the container.
  • High-Level Detection: Mount the sensor at the maximum desired water level. When the water reaches this level, the pump will automatically activate to drain the container.

Ensure the sensor probe is fully submerged at the desired switching point and is not obstructed by debris.

5.4 Connecting a Device (e.g., Pump)

Plug the device you wish to control (e.g., a pump) into the integrated power socket on the H-Tronic WPS 5000 control unit. Ensure the connected device's power consumption does not exceed 2500 W.

6. Operating Instructions

After installation, configure the WPS 5000 according to your specific needs:

  • Power On: Connect the control unit to a 230V AC power supply. The display will illuminate.
  • Setting Switching Point: Use the 'SET' button and arrow keys (Up/Down) to adjust the desired water level threshold. Refer to the on-screen prompts for precise adjustment.
  • Relay Configuration: The relay can be set as a normally open (opener) or normally closed (closer) contact. This determines whether the connected device turns ON or OFF when the set level is reached. Consult the device's display and menu for this setting.
  • Adjusting ON/OFF Delay: A delay can be set from 1 to 999 seconds (approx. 2.8 hours). This feature prevents rapid switching and allows the connected device to operate for a specific duration after the level is reached. For example, if set to 60 seconds, the pump will run for 60 seconds once the high level is detected, even if the level drops below the sensor during this time.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your H-Tronic WPS 5000:

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the sensor probe to remove any buildup of dirt, algae, or mineral deposits that could affect its accuracy. Use a soft brush and clean water.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the sensor cable for any signs of wear, damage, or kinks. Ensure all connections are secure.
  • Control Unit: Keep the control unit clean and free from dust. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your H-Tronic WPS 5000, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Device not powering onNo power supply; faulty power outletCheck power connection; test power outlet with another device.
Pump not activating/deactivating at set levelSensor dirty or incorrectly positioned; incorrect relay configuration; faulty pumpClean sensor; verify sensor position; check relay settings (normally open/closed); test pump independently.
Inaccurate level detectionSensor dirty; cable damage; interferenceClean sensor; inspect sensor cable for damage; ensure no strong electrical interference sources nearby.
Connected device switches too frequentlyDelay setting too short or not configuredAdjust the ON/OFF delay setting to a longer duration.
