Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: This probe is designed for high voltage measurements. Improper use can result in electric shock, injury, or damage to equipment. Always adhere to the following safety precautions:
- Ensure the oscilloscope and the probe are properly grounded before making any connections.
- Do not exceed the maximum input voltage of 2000V (Vp-p).
- Always connect the probe's ground lead to the circuit's ground before connecting the probe tip to the signal source.
- Disconnect the probe tip from the signal source before disconnecting the ground lead.
- Inspect the probe cable and connectors for any damage before each use. Do not use if damaged.
- Use only in dry conditions. Avoid exposure to moisture or extreme temperatures.
- Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the probe. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.

5. Setup
5.1 Connecting the Probe to the Oscilloscope
- Ensure your oscilloscope is powered off.
- Connect the BNC connector of the P4100 probe to an input channel on your oscilloscope.
- Attach the ground lead's alligator clip to the ground terminal of the oscilloscope.
- Power on your oscilloscope.
5.2 Probe Compensation Adjustment
Proper probe compensation is crucial for accurate measurements. This adjusts the probe's capacitance to match the oscilloscope's input capacitance, ensuring a flat frequency response.
- Connect the probe tip to the oscilloscope's probe compensation output (usually a square wave signal, often 1kHz, 5Vp-p).
- Connect the probe's ground clip to the oscilloscope's ground terminal.
- Observe the square wave on the oscilloscope screen.
- Using the provided adjustment tool, carefully turn the trimmer screw on the probe body until the square wave corners are flat and sharp, without overshoot or undershoot.

6. Operating Instructions
The P4100 probe has a 100:1 attenuation ratio. This means the voltage displayed on the oscilloscope screen will be 1/100th of the actual voltage at the probe tip. Remember to multiply the oscilloscope's reading by 100 to get the true voltage.
- Ensure the probe is correctly connected and compensated as described in the Setup section.
- Always connect the probe's ground clip to the circuit's ground point first.
- Carefully touch the probe tip to the test point where you wish to measure the high voltage signal.
- Observe the waveform on the oscilloscope screen. Adjust the oscilloscope's vertical scale (Volts/Div) and horizontal scale (Time/Div) as needed to get a clear display.
- To calculate the actual voltage, multiply the voltage reading on the oscilloscope by 100. For example, if the oscilloscope reads 10V, the actual voltage is 10V * 100 = 1000V.
- Always disconnect the probe tip from the test point before disconnecting the ground clip.

7. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your kuman P4100 probe, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the probe body and cable. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the probe is disconnected from all power sources before cleaning.
- Storage: Store the probe in a clean, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep it in its original packaging or a protective case to prevent damage to the tip and cable.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the probe cable for cuts, kinks, or insulation damage. Check the connectors for corrosion or bending. If any damage is found, discontinue use and consider replacement.
- Recalibration: Periodically check the probe compensation, especially if you notice discrepancies in measurements or if the probe has been subjected to significant temperature changes.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your kuman P4100 probe, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Distorted waveform (overshoot/undershoot) | Incorrect probe compensation. | Perform probe compensation adjustment (Section 5.2). |
| No signal or very weak signal | Probe not properly connected; oscilloscope settings incorrect; faulty probe. | Check BNC connection and ground lead. Adjust oscilloscope's Volts/Div setting. Test with a known good signal source. |
| Excessive noise in waveform | Poor grounding; electromagnetic interference. | Ensure ground lead is securely connected to circuit ground. Minimize cable length. Move away from strong electromagnetic fields. |
| Inaccurate voltage readings | Incorrect oscilloscope scaling; probe compensation off. | Remember to multiply oscilloscope reading by 100. Re-check probe compensation. |
