Setup and Installation
- Power Off: Before beginning, ensure your turntable is completely powered off and unplugged from the electrical outlet to prevent accidental damage or injury.
- Locate Old Stylus: Carefully identify the existing stylus on your turntable's cartridge. It is typically located at the front underside of the tonearm.
- Remove Old Stylus: Gently grasp the old stylus assembly and pull it forward and slightly downward, away from the cartridge body. Avoid excessive force to prevent damage to the tonearm or cartridge.
- Unpack New Stylus: Carefully remove the new Durpower replacement stylus from its packaging. Handle it by the plastic body, avoiding contact with the delicate diamond tip.
- Install New Stylus: Align the new stylus with the cartridge body. Gently push it upwards and backwards until it clicks securely into place. Ensure it is seated firmly and level.
- Inspect Installation: Visually confirm that the new stylus is correctly installed and that the diamond tip is visible and undamaged.
- Power On: Plug in and power on your turntable.
Caution: The stylus tip is extremely delicate. Handle with care to avoid bending or breaking it. Do not touch the diamond tip with your fingers.
Operating Instructions
- Record Placement: Place your record gently on the turntable platter.
- Tonearm Handling: Use the tonearm lift lever to raise and lower the tonearm. Avoid manually dropping the tonearm onto the record, as this can damage both the stylus and the record.
- Stylus Contact: Carefully position the stylus over the lead-in groove of the record before lowering the tonearm.
- Speed Selection: Ensure your turntable is set to the correct speed (33 or 45 RPM) for the record you are playing.
- Record Cleaning: Always play clean records. Dust and debris can accumulate on the stylus and degrade sound quality, as well as cause premature wear.
Maintenance
- Stylus Cleaning: Regularly clean the stylus tip using a soft stylus brush, brushing gently from back to front (in the direction of play). Do not brush side-to-side. Use a specialized stylus cleaning fluid if necessary, applied sparingly to the brush, not directly to the stylus.
- Record Cleaning: Keep your records clean using a record brush or cleaning solution to minimize dust transfer to the stylus.
- Stylus Inspection: Periodically inspect the stylus tip for wear or damage using a magnifying glass. A worn stylus can damage your records and degrade sound quality. Replace the stylus if it appears bent, chipped, or excessively worn.
- Storage: When not in use, ensure the tonearm is secured in its rest and the stylus guard (if available) is in place to protect the tip.
