2. Safety Instructions

Always follow these safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the airbrush:

  • Ventilation: Always use the airbrush in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling paint fumes. Consider using a spray booth or respirator.
  • Eye Protection: Wear appropriate eye protection (safety glasses or goggles) to shield your eyes from paint spray or cleaning solutions.
  • Skin Protection: Wear gloves to protect your skin from paints and solvents.
  • Flammable Materials: Do not use flammable paints or solvents near open flames, sparks, or heat sources. Ensure proper storage of all materials.
  • Pressure: Never exceed the recommended air pressure for your airbrush. Refer to the specifications section.
  • Children and Pets: Keep the airbrush and all related materials out of reach of children and pets.

4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your airbrush for first use:

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any visible damage.
  2. Connect Air Source: Attach the air hose to the airbrush's air inlet port. Connect the other end of the hose to your air compressor. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent air leaks.
  3. Select Nozzle/Needle: Choose the appropriate nozzle and needle size (0.2mm, 0.3mm, or 0.5mm) for your painting task. The 0.3mm set is typically pre-installed. To change, carefully unscrew the nozzle cap, remove the needle, then unscrew the nozzle. Replace with the desired size, ensuring the nozzle is gently tightened with the provided wrench, and the needle is reinserted fully.
  4. Prepare Paint: Thin your paint to the correct consistency for airbrushing. The consistency should be similar to milk. Use the pipette to transfer paint into the gravity-feed cup.

5. Operating Instructions

The Fengda BD-207 is a dual-action airbrush, meaning the trigger controls both air and paint flow independently.

  1. Air Flow: Press down on the trigger to release air. This should be done before any paint is released.
  2. Paint Flow: While holding the trigger down for air, pull the trigger back to release paint. The further back you pull, the more paint will flow.
  3. Spraying Technique: Practice on scrap material first. Maintain a consistent distance from your surface (typically 2-6 inches, depending on detail). Move your hand in smooth, even strokes. Release the paint flow (push trigger forward) before releasing the air flow (release trigger up) at the end of each stroke to prevent paint buildup and splattering.
  4. Adjusting Spray Pattern: The amount of paint and air pressure will determine the spray pattern. Experiment with different settings to achieve desired results.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning is crucial for the longevity and performance of your airbrush.

6.1. Quick Cleaning (Between Colors or After Short Use)

  1. Empty any remaining paint from the cup.
  2. Add a few drops of appropriate cleaner (water for acrylics, solvent for enamels/lacquers) to the paint cup.
  3. Back-flush: Cover the nozzle tip with your finger or a cap and press down for air. This will bubble the cleaner back into the cup, dislodging paint.
  4. Spray out the cleaner onto a paper towel until clear. Repeat if necessary.

6.2. Deep Cleaning (After Each Session or When Clogged)

  1. Perform quick cleaning first.
  2. Disconnect the airbrush from the air source.
  3. Carefully disassemble the airbrush: remove the handle, needle chucking guide, needle, nozzle cap, and nozzle.
  4. Clean all components with appropriate cleaner and a soft brush or cotton swab. Pay special attention to the nozzle and needle, as these are critical for fine spray. Do not use metal tools to clean the nozzle or needle, as this can cause damage.
  5. Rinse all parts with clean water (if using water-based cleaners) and allow them to dry completely.
  6. Reassemble the airbrush. Ensure the needle is inserted gently and fully before tightening the needle chucking guide.

6.3. Storage

Store your airbrush in its original case or a protective stand to prevent damage to the delicate needle and nozzle.
