C-Scope CS2MX
C.Scope CS2MX Metal Detector User Manual
Model: CS2MX
Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your C.Scope CS2MX Metal Detector. The CS2MX is a high-sensitivity metal detector designed for ease of use and powerful performance. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating your device to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Key Features
- Lightweight and high-sensitivity design for comfortable and effective metal detection.
- Fully variable discrimination control to filter out unwanted metals.
- Pinpoint control for precise target location.
- Belt-mounted control box for ergonomic operation and reduced arm fatigue.
- Long battery life: Operates with 8 AA batteries, providing up to 40 hours of detection depending on battery type.
Setup
1. Assembly
The C.Scope CS2MX typically comes partially assembled. Follow these steps to complete the assembly:
- Attach the search coil to the lower stem using the provided bolt and nut. Ensure it is securely fastened but allows for slight angle adjustment.
- Connect the lower stem to the middle stem, and then the middle stem to the upper stem. Adjust the length of the stem to a comfortable height for operation.
- Mount the control box to the upper stem or attach it to your belt using the integrated belt clip. Ensure the cable from the search coil is securely wrapped around the stem to prevent tangling and damage.
2. Battery Installation
The CS2MX requires 8 AA batteries for operation.
- Locate the battery compartment on the control box.
- Open the compartment cover.
- Insert 8 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
Important: Always use fresh, high-quality batteries. Remove batteries if the detector will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
Operating Instructions
1. Controls Overview

Figure 2: Close-up of the C.Scope CS2MX control box, showing the various dials and switches.
The CS2MX features intuitive dial controls for easy adjustment. While it does not feature an LCD screen, audio feedback is crucial for target identification.
- ON/OFF/SENS (Sensitivity): This dial turns the unit on and off and adjusts the detector's sensitivity. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but can also increase false signals in mineralized ground.
- DISC (Discrimination): This dial allows you to discriminate against unwanted metals (e.g., iron, foil). Turning the dial clockwise increases the level of discrimination, filtering out more conductive targets.
- ALL METAL/PINPOINT Switch: This switch toggles between the 'All Metal' mode (for maximum depth and detection of all metal types) and 'Pinpoint' mode (for precise location of a detected target).
2. Basic Operation
- Power On: Turn the ON/OFF/SENS dial clockwise until you hear a click. Continue turning to set your desired sensitivity level. Start with a medium setting and adjust as needed.
- Ground Balancing: The CS2MX is designed for ease of use and typically features automatic ground balancing. However, if you experience excessive chatter or false signals, try reducing the sensitivity.
- Sweeping the Coil: Hold the detector with the search coil parallel to the ground, about 1-2 inches above the surface. Sweep the coil slowly from side to side in overlapping passes.
- Target Response: When a metal object is detected, the detector will emit an audio tone. The tone's pitch and consistency can help indicate the type of metal.
- Using Discrimination: If you wish to ignore certain metals, slowly increase the DISC dial. Experiment with different settings to understand how the detector responds to various targets.
- Pinpointing: Once a target is detected, switch to 'Pinpoint' mode. Move the coil slowly over the target area. The loudest and most consistent signal will indicate the center of the target.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the detector with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: Store the detector in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries.
- Coil Care: The search coil is waterproof, but the control box is not. Avoid submerging the control box in water. Clean the coil regularly, especially if used in muddy or sandy conditions.
- Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect the cable connecting the search coil to the control box for any signs of wear or damage.
The C.Scope CS2MX has an International Protection Rating of IP44, meaning it is protected from solid objects larger than 1 millimeter and from splashing water from any direction. This rating applies to the overall unit, but particular care should be taken with the control box.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power / Detector does not turn on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity. Replace all 8 AA batteries with fresh ones. |
| Constant chatter or false signals. | High sensitivity setting; highly mineralized ground; electromagnetic interference. | Reduce the SENS (Sensitivity) dial. Move away from power lines, cell phones, or other electronic devices. |
| Detector beeps on non-metal objects. | Discrimination setting too low. | Increase the DISC (Discrimination) dial setting. |
| Poor detection depth. | Low sensitivity setting; worn-out batteries; incorrect sweep speed. | Increase SENS (Sensitivity). Replace batteries. Ensure slow, even sweep. |
