SYLVANIA 67504 LU70/MED 70-Watt High Pressure Sodium HID Light Bulb Instruction Manual

Model: 67504 LU70/MED

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective installation, operation, and maintenance of your SYLVANIA 67504 LU70/MED 70-Watt High Pressure Sodium (HPS) HID Light Bulb. This bulb is designed for applications requiring high luminous efficacy and long life, producing 6300 lumens with a 1900K color temperature and utilizing an E26 medium screw base.

2. Safety Information

Read and understand all instructions before installation or operation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or other hazards.

  • Electrical Hazard: Always disconnect power to the fixture before inspecting, installing, or removing the bulb.
  • High Temperature: HID bulbs operate at high temperatures. Allow the bulb to cool completely before handling. Do not touch the bulb with bare hands during operation or immediately after shutdown.
  • Ballast Requirement: This bulb requires a compatible 70-watt High Pressure Sodium ballast for proper operation. Do not operate without a ballast or with an incompatible ballast.
  • Fixture Compatibility: Ensure the fixture is rated for the wattage and type of this bulb and is enclosed if required by the bulb's operating position.
  • UV Radiation: HID lamps produce UV radiation. Use in fixtures designed to filter UV if prolonged exposure is a concern.
  • Mercury Content: This product contains mercury. Dispose of in accordance with local, state, and federal laws. Visit www.epa.gov/mercury for disposal information.
  • Lamp Rupture: Avoid striking or dropping the bulb. Operate only in suitable fixtures to prevent lamp rupture.

3. Setup and Installation

  1. Power Disconnection: Ensure the power supply to the lighting fixture is completely turned off at the circuit breaker or fuse box before beginning installation.
  2. Fixture Inspection: Verify that the lighting fixture is clean, dry, and free from damage. Confirm it is designed for an E26 medium screw base and a 70-watt HPS bulb.
  3. Bulb Handling: Remove the new SYLVANIA HPS bulb from its packaging. Handle the bulb by its base, avoiding direct contact with the glass envelope. Oils from skin can create hot spots and reduce bulb life. If the glass is touched, clean it with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  4. Installation: Carefully screw the bulb into the E26 medium screw base socket until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.
  5. Power Restoration: Once the bulb is securely installed, restore power to the fixture.

4. Operation

  • Warm-up Time: Upon initial ignition or after a power interruption, the bulb will require a warm-up period to reach full brightness and stable color. This typically takes 5-10 minutes for HPS lamps.
  • Restrike Time: If the bulb is turned off, it must cool down before it can be reignited. This "restrike" period can take 5-15 minutes, depending on the ambient temperature and the specific ballast. Attempting to restrike too soon may prevent ignition or shorten bulb life.
  • Light Output: The SYLVANIA 67504 produces 6300 lumens of light with a characteristic warm, yellowish-orange glow (1900K color temperature), typical of High Pressure Sodium lamps.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Periodically, with the power off and the bulb cool, gently wipe the exterior of the bulb and fixture reflector with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove dust and debris. Do not use liquid cleaners directly on the bulb.
  • Replacement: HPS bulbs have a long operational life, but light output gradually decreases over time. Replace the bulb when light output becomes noticeably dim or when the bulb fails to ignite or maintain a stable arc.
  • Disposal: Due to mercury content, dispose of spent bulbs according to local environmental regulations. Do not dispose of in regular household waste.
