5. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to properly set up and install your drive recorder:
- Insert MicroSD Card: Ensure the 8GB microSDHC card is inserted into the designated slot on the drive recorder.
- Attach Mounting Bracket: Securely attach the mounting bracket to the drive recorder unit.
- Choose Installation Location: Select a location on your windshield that provides a clear view of the road ahead, does not obstruct your driving view, and is within reach of the power source. Avoid areas that interfere with airbag deployment.
- Mount the Device: Clean the chosen area on the windshield. Remove the protective film from the adhesive pad on the mounting bracket and firmly press it onto the windshield. Hold for a few seconds to ensure a strong bond.
- Connect Power Cable: Connect the vehicle power cable to the drive recorder's power input port. Route the cable neatly along the windshield edge and dashboard to avoid obstructing your view or controls. Plug the other end into your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket or a compatible 12V power outlet.
- Adjust Camera Angle: Once mounted, adjust the camera lens to capture the desired field of view, typically centered on the road ahead with a slight view of the hood. Use the live view on the LCD screen to assist with adjustment.
- Initial Power On: Start your vehicle's engine. The drive recorder should power on automatically and begin recording.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Automatic Recording
The DC-DR400 automatically starts recording when the vehicle's engine is turned on and stops when the engine is turned off. There is no need for manual power on/off operations.
6.2 Manual Recording / Event Recording
In addition to continuous recording, the device supports event recording:
- G-Sensor Event Recording: If the built-in G-sensor detects a sudden impact or significant vibration (e.g., collision, hard braking), the device will automatically save the current recording segment as an event file, protecting it from being overwritten.
- Manual Event Recording: Refer to the device's on-screen menu or specific buttons (if available) for initiating a manual event recording to save a specific moment.
6.3 Playback on LCD Screen
You can review recorded videos directly on the device's LCD screen:
- While the device is powered on, navigate to the playback menu using the control buttons.
- Select the desired video file from the list.
- Press the OK button to start playback.
- Use the navigation buttons to fast forward, rewind, or pause playback.
6.4 Connecting to Car Navigation System (Optional)
If you have an optional AV cable, you can connect the drive recorder to a compatible car navigation system to view recorded footage on a larger screen. Refer to your car navigation system's manual for connection instructions.
7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your drive recorder:
- MicroSD Card Formatting: It is recommended to format the microSD card regularly (e.g., once a month) to prevent data corruption and ensure smooth recording. Formatting will erase all data on the card, so back up important files beforehand.
- Cleaning the Lens: Gently wipe the camera lens with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust or smudges. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Cleaning the Device: Wipe the exterior of the device with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth. Do not use chemical cleaners.
- Firmware Updates: Check the COMTEC official website periodically for any available firmware updates. Follow the instructions provided with the update carefully.
