Setup

1. Powering Your Radio

Your Sangean LT-1808 radio can be powered in two ways:

  • AC Power: Connect the provided AC power cord to the radio's power input jack and then to a standard wall outlet.
  • Battery Power: For portable use, the radio requires two (2) D-size batteries (not included). Open the battery compartment cover located on the back of the radio, insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators, and close the cover securely.

2. Antenna Adjustment

For optimal FM reception, fully extend the telescopic antenna. For AM reception, the radio uses a built-in ferrite bar antenna, so no external adjustment is typically needed, but rotating the radio may improve reception.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Sangean LT-1808 radio, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the radio with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the radio's performance diminishes or if you plan not to use the radio for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Storage: Store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Antenna Care: Handle the telescopic antenna gently to avoid bending or breaking.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your radio, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power:
    • Ensure the AC power cord is securely plugged into both the radio and a working wall outlet.
    • If using batteries, check if they are inserted correctly with the right polarity and if they need replacement.
    • Confirm the VOLUME knob is turned ON.
  • Poor Reception/Static:
    • For FM, fully extend and adjust the telescopic antenna.
    • For AM, try rotating the radio for better signal strength.
    • Move the radio away from other electronic devices that may cause interference.
    • Try tuning to a different station to see if the issue is specific to one frequency.
  • No Sound:
    • Check the volume level and ensure it is not set to minimum.
    • If headphones are plugged in, unplug them to enable the built-in speaker.
    • Ensure the radio is tuned to an active station.
