4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

Both the transmitter and receiver require 2 AAA batteries each (not included). Ensure correct polarity when inserting batteries.

4.2 Connecting the Receiver to Your Camera

  1. Mount the receiver onto your camera's hot shoe. This provides a secure attachment point.
  2. Connect one end of the provided DC2 camera connecting cable to the receiver.
  3. Connect the other end of the cable to the remote control port (DC2 port) on your Nikon camera. This port is typically located on the side of the camera.

4.3 Setting Channels

The TW-283/DC2 offers 30 channels to prevent interference. Ensure both the transmitter and receiver are set to the same channel for proper communication. Refer to the LCD screen on both units to adjust channels using the CH- and +CH buttons on the receiver, and corresponding buttons on the transmitter.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Shutter Release Functions

The transmitter's main button functions as a two-stage shutter release:

  • Half-Press: Press the button halfway down to activate your camera's autofocus and metering system. The indicator light on the transmitter will typically turn green.
  • Full-Press: Press the button completely down to trigger the camera's shutter. The indicator light will typically turn red.

5.2 Shooting Modes

The TW-283/DC2 supports various shooting modes, selectable via the transmitter's interface:

Four shooting modes: Single, Continuous, Bulb, Delay

  • Single Shooting: Captures one photo with each full press of the shutter button.
  • Continuous Shooting: Captures a series of photos as long as the shutter button is held down (or for 1-second continuous shooting as a specific mode).
  • Bulb Shooting: Keeps the shutter open for the duration the button is pressed, or for a pre-set time in timer mode. Ideal for long exposures.
  • Delay Shooting: Introduces a delay before the shutter is released. The delay time can be set from 1 to 59 seconds, and the number of shots from 1 to 99.

5.3 Timer Schedule Shooting

This advanced mode allows for precise control over a sequence of shots, ideal for time-lapse photography or complex long exposures.

You can program the following parameters:

  • Delay Time (DELAY): The initial delay before the first shot.
  • Exposure Time (LONG): The duration the shutter remains open for each shot (especially in Bulb mode).
  • Interval Time (INTVL): The time between each shot in a sequence.
  • Number of Shots (N1): The total number of photos to be taken in one sequence.
  • Repeat Interval (REPEAT): The interval between repeating entire sequences.
  • Repeat Times (N2): The number of times the entire sequence (N1 shots) will be repeated.

Timer schedule shooting time can be set from 0 seconds to 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. The number of shots can be set from 1 to 99.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Device Not Responding:
    - Check if batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient power. Replace if necessary.
    - Ensure both the transmitter and receiver are powered on.
    - Verify that the camera connecting cable is securely plugged into both the receiver and the camera's remote port.
  • Wireless Connection Issues:
    - Confirm that the transmitter and receiver are set to the same channel.
    - Move closer to the camera to rule out range limitations or environmental interference.
    - Avoid operating near strong electromagnetic sources.
  • Shutter Not Firing:
    - Check your camera's settings to ensure it is in a compatible shooting mode (e.g., single shot, continuous, Bulb).
    - Ensure the camera is properly focused. The remote's half-press function should activate autofocus.
  • LCD Screen Not Displaying:
    - Check battery levels. Low batteries can cause display issues.
    - Ensure the device is powered on.
