  • Accessories: Use only DJI-approved accessories, batteries, and chargers. Using unapproved components may cause damage or injury.
  • Disassembly: Do not attempt to disassemble, modify, or repair the device yourself. Contact authorized service personnel for assistance.
  • Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation around the device during operation to prevent overheating.
  • Battery Handling: Handle Lithium Polymer batteries with care. Do not puncture, drop, or expose them to fire.

3. Setup

3.1. Unboxing and Components

Upon opening your DJI OSMO package, ensure all components are present:

  • DJI OSMO Handheld Gimbal and Camera Unit
  • Intelligent Battery (Lithium Polymer)
  • Battery Charger
  • Wrist Strap
  • Smartphone Holder

3.2. Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Insert the provided Lithium Polymer battery into the battery compartment located at the base of the OSMO handle. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
  2. Connect the battery charger to a power source and then to the OSMO unit. Charge the battery fully before its first use. The indicator light on the OSMO will show charging status.

3.3. SD Card Insertion

  1. Locate the SD card slot on the camera unit.
  2. Insert a compatible micro SD card (e.g., SDHC/SDXC) with the metal contacts facing downwards until it clicks into place.
  3. It is recommended to format the SD card via the DJI Go app before first use to prevent potential "Invalid SD Card" errors.

3.4. Smartphone Holder Attachment

  1. Attach the smartphone holder to the designated mounting point on the OSMO handle.
  2. Secure your smartphone into the holder. This will serve as your live view monitor and control interface.

3.5. Smartphone App Connection

  1. Download and install the DJI Go app (ensure it is not the DJI Go 4 app, as mentioned in user feedback) from your smartphone's app store.
  2. Power on your DJI OSMO.
  3. On your smartphone, connect to the OSMO's Wi-Fi network (SSID and password can be found on the OSMO unit or in its initial setup guide).
  4. Launch the DJI Go app. The app will automatically detect and connect to your OSMO, providing a live camera feed and access to settings.

4.1. Power On/Off

To power on or off the DJI OSMO, press and hold the power button located on the handle until the indicator lights illuminate or turn off.

4.2. Basic Controls

  • Joystick: Use the joystick on the handle to precisely control the camera's pan (left/right) and tilt (up/down) movements.
  • Record Button: Press once to start video recording. Press again to stop. In photo mode, press to take a picture.
  • Mode Button:
    • Single press: Switch between video and photo modes.
    • Double press: Recenter the gimbal.
    • Triple press: Switch to selfie mode (camera faces the user).
  • Trigger Button: (Located on the front of the handle)
    • Hold: Lock the gimbal's orientation, keeping the camera pointed in a fixed direction regardless of handle movement.
    • Double tap: Recenter the gimbal.
    • Triple tap: Switch to selfie mode.

4.3. Video Recording

  • The OSMO supports 4K (4096 x 2160) video recording at 24 or 25 frames per second (P).
  • Video files are typically saved in MP4 format.
  • Adjust video resolution, frame rate, ISO, and other advanced settings through the DJI Go app.
  • For bright outdoor conditions, consider using Neutral Density (ND) filters (sold separately) to control exposure and prevent blown-out highlights, especially in the sky.

4.4. Photo Capture

  • Capture high-resolution 12MP still photos.
  • Photos can be saved in JPEG or DNG RAW format for maximum post-processing flexibility.

4.5. Gimbal Stabilization

The integrated 3-axis gimbal actively stabilizes the camera, ensuring smooth and steady footage even during movement. Utilize the gimbal controls and various modes (e.g., Follow, Lock) within the DJI Go app to achieve desired camera movements.

4.6. Wi-Fi for Monitoring and Remote Operation

The built-in Wi-Fi module allows your smartphone to act as a live view monitor and remote control. This enables you to adjust settings, preview shots, and control the camera from a distance.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to clean the camera lens and the OSMO body. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Store your DJI OSMO in a cool, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and excessive dust.
  • Battery Care: For optimal battery life, avoid completely draining or overcharging the Lithium Polymer battery. If storing for extended periods, charge the battery to approximately 50-60%.
  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check the DJI Go app for available firmware updates. Keeping your OSMO's firmware up-to-date ensures access to the latest features, performance improvements, and bug fixes.

6. Troubleshooting

  • "Invalid SD Card" Error: This error often indicates an incompatible or improperly formatted SD card. Ensure your SD card meets the recommended specifications and format it using the DJI Go app. If the issue persists, try a different SD card.
  • Sky Overexposure / Blown-out Highlights: In very bright outdoor conditions, the sky may appear overexposed. This is a common challenge for cameras with smaller sensors. Using Neutral Density (ND) filters can help reduce the amount of light entering the lens, allowing for more balanced exposure.
  • Gimbal Drift or Tilted Horizon: If the gimbal appears to drift or the horizon is not level, perform a gimbal calibration through the DJI Go app. Ensure the OSMO is placed on a flat, stable surface during calibration.
  • Subpar Audio Quality: The built-in microphone may not provide professional-grade audio, especially in noisy environments. For improved audio, connect an external microphone to the OSMO's audio jack.
  • DJI Go App Crashing or Connectivity Issues: Ensure you are using the correct DJI Go app (not DJI Go 4). Restart both your OSMO and smartphone. Verify that your smartphone is connected to the OSMO's Wi-Fi network and that the app is up-to-date.
