- Tighten the reel seat nuts securely until the reel is firmly attached and does not wobble.
Spooling Fishing Line
- Open the bail arm of the reel.
- Tie the end of your fishing line to the spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot.
- Close the bail arm.
- Hold the line under slight tension and begin to reel slowly, ensuring the line lays evenly on the spool.
- Fill the spool to approximately 1/8 inch from the rim to prevent tangles and maximize casting distance.

Operating Instructions
Casting
- Hold the rod and reel comfortably.
- Open the bail arm with your free hand.
- Grip the line against the rod with your index finger.
- Bring the rod back over your shoulder, then swiftly cast forward, releasing the line with your index finger as the rod reaches the desired angle.
- As the lure or bait hits the water, close the bail arm manually or by turning the handle.
Retrieving
Turn the reel handle clockwise (or counter-clockwise depending on handle setup) to retrieve the line. Maintain a steady retrieve speed appropriate for your lure or bait and the fishing conditions.
Drag Adjustment
The drag knob is located on the front of the spool. Turn it clockwise to increase drag tension and counter-clockwise to decrease it. Set the drag to allow line to be pulled off the spool under pressure, preventing line breakage and protecting your rod and reel when fighting a fish.

Maintenance
Cleaning
- After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the reel with fresh water to remove salt and debris. Do not submerge the reel.
- Wipe the reel dry with a soft cloth.
- Use a cotton swab to clean hard-to-reach areas.
Lubrication
- Periodically apply a small amount of reel oil to moving parts such as the handle shaft, bail arm pivot, and line roller.
- Apply reel grease to the main gears if you disassemble the reel for deeper cleaning (recommended for experienced users only).
Storage
- Store the reel in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
- Loosen the drag completely before storage to prevent compression of the drag washers.
- Consider using a reel cover or case to protect it from dust and physical damage.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Stiff or Grinding Handle | Lack of lubrication, dirt/debris in gears | Clean and lubricate gears. If persistent, professional service may be required. |
| Line Twist | Improper spooling, faulty line roller, retrieving against drag | Check line roller for free rotation. Re-spool line correctly. Avoid retrieving when drag is slipping. |
| Drag Slipping Unevenly | Dirty or worn drag washers | Clean or replace drag washers. |
| Bail Arm Not Closing Properly | Debris, bent bail wire, worn spring | Inspect for debris and clear. Check bail wire for bends. If spring is worn, replacement may be needed. |
