3. Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble your metal detector:

  1. Attach the Control Unit to the Shaft: Align the control unit with the upper shaft section. Secure it using the provided screws and tighten firmly.
  2. Install the Armrest: Slide the armrest onto the upper shaft and secure it in place with the designated screw. Adjust the strap for a comfortable fit on your forearm.
  3. Assemble the Shaft: Connect the middle and lower shaft sections. Ensure the spring clips engage securely into the adjustment holes.
  4. Attach the Search Coil: Insert the lower shaft into the search coil's mounting bracket. Secure it with the provided bolt and knob, ensuring the coil can pivot freely but remains firm.
  5. Wrap the Cable: Carefully wrap the search coil cable around the shaft, leaving enough slack for the coil to pivot. Secure the cable to prevent tangling or damage.
  6. Connect Headphones: Plug the waterproof headphones into the designated port on the control unit.
  7. Insert Battery: Open the battery compartment on the control unit. Insert one 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.

4. Operating Instructions

The SuperEye MD6026 features intuitive controls for efficient metal detection.

4.1 Control Panel Overview

Figure 3: Detailed view of the control panel.

  • SENS (Sensitivity) Knob: Adjusts the detector's sensitivity to targets. Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but may also increase false signals in mineralized ground.
  • DISC (Discrimination) Knob: Allows you to filter out unwanted metals (junk) and focus on specific target types. Turning the knob clockwise increases the discrimination level.
  • TARGET ID (Power-On) Button: Press to power on/off the device. Also functions as a target identification button, providing a 3-color LED indicator for metal type.
  • LED Indicator: Provides visual feedback on detected metal types (e.g., green for high-value, red for iron).
  • Audible Alarm: Emits an audible signal through the headphones when a metal target is detected.

4.2 Basic Operation

  1. Power On: Twist the SENS knob clockwise until you hear a click and the device powers on.
  2. Adjust Sensitivity: Start with a medium sensitivity setting. If the detector is unstable or produces too many false signals, reduce the sensitivity. Increase sensitivity for deeper detection in clear areas.
  3. Set Discrimination: Turn the DISC knob to your desired level. For all metal detection, set it to the lowest discrimination. Increase it to filter out iron or other junk metals.
  4. Sweep the Coil: Hold the detector with the search coil parallel to the ground, about 1-2 inches above the surface. Sweep the coil slowly from side to side in overlapping passes.
  5. Target Indication: When a target is detected, the detector will emit an audible tone through the headphones and the LED indicator will light up, indicating the probable metal type.
  6. Pinpointing: Once a target is detected, narrow down its location by slowly sweeping the coil in a cross-pattern over the area. The strongest signal indicates the center of the target.

5. Key Features

  • IP68 Full Waterproof Design: The detector is fully submersible up to 40 meters (130 ft), making it suitable for underwater treasure hunting, beachcombing, and river exploration.

  • Professional 8.6-inch Search Coil: The large, sensitive coil covers more ground and enhances detection depth for various metal types, including small objects.
  • LED Alerts + Waterproof Headphones: Visual LED signals and included waterproof headphones provide clear target indications, even in dark or noisy environments.
  • SuperEye MD6026 waterproof headphones and 8.6-inch search coil

  • Customizable Detection Settings: Adjustable sensitivity and discrimination modes allow users to fine-tune the detector for specific metals like gold, silver, or coins.
  • Long Battery Life: Equipped with a long-lasting battery, providing up to 20 hours of continuous operation for extended treasure hunts.
  • Lightweight & Ergonomic Design: Features an adjustable aluminum arm (43-50 inches) and a lightweight build for comfortable use on land or in water.
  • SuperEye MD6026 with adjustable arm tube

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your metal detector:

  • Cleaning: After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the search coil and shaft with fresh water. Wipe the control unit with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Battery Care: Remove the 9V battery if the detector will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly check the search coil cable for any signs of wear or damage.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Power:
    • Check if the 9V battery is correctly inserted and fully charged.
    • Ensure the power knob is twisted fully clockwise until it clicks.
  • False Signals/Unstable Operation:
    • Reduce the SENS (Sensitivity) setting.
    • Increase the DISC (Discrimination) setting to filter out unwanted metals or ground mineralization.
    • Ensure the search coil cable is tightly wrapped around the shaft and not swinging freely.
    • Avoid areas with high electromagnetic interference (e.g., power lines, other electronic devices).
  • No Detection:
    • Increase the SENS (Sensitivity) setting.
    • Ensure the DISC (Discrimination) setting is not too high, potentially filtering out desired targets.
    • Verify the search coil cable is securely connected to the control unit.
