Setup
Before first use, wash all components with warm water and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly. It is recommended to brew 2-3 batches of coffee and discard them to season the coffee maker and remove any manufacturing residues.
- Unscrew the upper chamber from the lower chamber.
- Remove the filter funnel.
- Fill the lower chamber with cold water up to the level of the safety valve. Do not exceed this level.
- Insert the filter funnel into the lower chamber.
- Fill the filter funnel with medium-fine ground coffee. Do not tamp the coffee. Level the grounds gently.
- Ensure the gasket and filter plate are correctly positioned in the upper chamber.
- Screw the upper chamber firmly onto the lower chamber. Ensure a tight seal to prevent steam leakage.
Operating Instructions
Follow these steps to brew espresso with your Pulcina coffee maker:
- Place the assembled coffee maker on a stovetop burner over medium heat. For gas stoves, ensure the flame does not extend beyond the base of the coffee maker.
- As the water heats, pressure builds, forcing hot water through the coffee grounds and into the upper chamber.
- The Pulcina is designed to automatically stop brewing at the optimal moment, preventing a burnt or bitter taste. You will hear a gurgling sound as the coffee finishes brewing.
- Once brewing is complete, remove the coffee maker from the heat source immediately.
- Pour the freshly brewed espresso into cups. Be cautious as the coffee maker will be hot.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Proper cleaning and maintenance ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your coffee maker.
- After each use, allow the coffee maker to cool completely before disassembling.
- Unscrew the upper chamber from the lower chamber.
- Discard used coffee grounds from the filter funnel.
- Wash all components (upper chamber, filter funnel, lower chamber) with warm water and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals.
- Rinse all parts thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
- Dry all components completely before reassembling or storing to prevent oxidation and mineral buildup.
- Periodically check the gasket and filter plate for wear and tear. Replace if they appear damaged or if you notice steam leakage during brewing.
- Do not put the coffee maker in a dishwasher.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee does not brew or brews slowly. | Too coarse/fine grind, insufficient water, clogged filter, loose assembly. | Adjust grind size, ensure water is at safety valve, clean filter, tighten chambers. |
| Steam leaks from the side. | Loose assembly, worn gasket. | Tighten chambers firmly, replace gasket if damaged. |
| Coffee tastes burnt or bitter. | Heat too high, coffee left on heat too long after brewing. | Use medium heat, remove from heat immediately after brewing. |
| Water remains in the lower chamber. | Coffee grounds too fine or tamped too hard, clogged filter. | Use medium-fine grind, do not tamp, clean filter. |
