1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and efficient operation of your Panasonic Portable CD Player SL-CT490. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device and retain it for future reference.

This compact, slim CD player features an advanced anti-skip system ('Sound Skip Buster') for uninterrupted playback. It includes an easy-to-use 6-key remote control with electronic volume.

3. Setup

3.1 Powering the Device

The Panasonic SL-CT490 can be powered using the included AC adapter or rechargeable batteries. Ensure the device is fully charged before first use for optimal performance.

  • Using the AC Adapter: Connect the AC adapter to the DC 4.5V input port on the player and plug it into a standard wall outlet.
  • Using Rechargeable Batteries: Open the battery compartment (refer to Figure 4) and insert the specified rechargeable batteries. Close the compartment securely. The full charge time for the included rechargeable battery is approximately 2 hours.

3.2 Inserting a CD

  1. Slide the OPEN switch to open the CD compartment lid.
  2. Place the CD onto the center spindle with the label side facing up.
  3. Gently press the CD until it clicks into place.
  4. Close the CD compartment lid securely.

3.3 Connecting Headphones/Earphones

Connect your 3.5mm headphones or earphones to the headphone jack on the side of the player.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Playback

  1. Ensure the player is powered on.
  2. Insert a CD as described in Section 3.2.
  3. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to start playback.
  4. To pause, press the PLAY/PAUSE button again. Press it once more to resume.
  5. To stop playback, press the STOP button.

4.2 Volume Control

Adjust the volume using the electronic volume controls on the remote control or the dedicated volume buttons on the player.

4.3 Track Navigation

  • Press the SKIP FORWARD button to advance to the next track.
  • Press the SKIP BACKWARD button to return to the beginning of the current track. Press it twice to go to the previous track.

4.4 Anti-Skip System (Sound Skip Buster)

The player is equipped with an anti-skip system to prevent interruptions during playback. This feature is automatically active.

4.5 FM Transmitter Function

The player includes an FM transmitter function, allowing you to broadcast audio to an FM radio or car audio system. Set the FM frequency on the player and the receiving device to the same frequency.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Unit: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the player. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • CD Care: Handle CDs by their edges. Keep them clean and free of scratches. Store them in their cases when not in use.
  • Battery Care: If the player will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 No Power

  • Check if the AC adapter is securely connected to both the player and the power outlet.
  • If using batteries, ensure they are correctly inserted and fully charged.
  • Verify the power switch is in the 'ON' position.

6.2 CD Does Not Play / Skipping

  • Ensure the CD is clean and free of scratches or smudges.
  • Make sure the CD is correctly placed on the spindle and the lid is closed.
  • The anti-skip system helps prevent skipping, but severe shocks may still cause interruptions.

6.3 No Sound

  • Check if headphones/earphones are properly connected.
  • Adjust the volume level.
  • If using the FM transmitter, ensure the receiving device is tuned to the correct frequency and its volume is adjusted.
