2. Setup: Setting Your Combination

Your new STANLEY S822-037 padlock is preset to open at 0-0-0. Follow these steps to set your personal combination:

  1. Ensure the lock is set to the default combination 0-0-0 and the cable is disengaged from the lock body.
  2. Locate the small reset button or lever on the side or bottom of the lock. Use a pen or a pointed object to press and hold this button, or slide the lever to the reset position.
  3. While holding the reset button/lever, rotate the dials to your desired 3-digit combination. Choose a memorable number.
  4. Release the reset button/lever. Your new combination is now set.
  5. Important: Scramble the dials immediately after setting your combination to lock it. Test your new combination to ensure it opens the lock correctly before securing any items.

To reset your combination at any time, repeat the steps above, starting with the lock set to its currently active combination.

3. Operating the Padlock

3.1. Opening the Lock

  1. Rotate the three dials to your personal 3-digit combination.
  2. Press the release button (if present) or pull the cable head away from the lock body to disengage it.

3.2. Securing Your Items

  1. Pass the cable through the zippers or attachment points of the items you wish to secure.
  2. Insert the cable head firmly into the lock body until it clicks into place.
  3. Scramble the dials to a random set of numbers to lock the device.

3.3. TSA Access

This lock is Travel Sentry Approved. This means TSA agents can open your luggage for inspection without cutting or damaging your lock. They use a universal master key specific to TSA-approved locks. Your personal combination remains secure and unchanged by their inspection.

4. Maintenance

The STANLEY S822-037 padlock requires minimal maintenance. To ensure its longevity and smooth operation:

  • Keep the lock clean and free from dirt or debris. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the finish or internal mechanisms.
  • Periodically check the cable for any signs of wear or damage. If the cable is compromised, replace the lock.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Cannot open the lock: Ensure the dials are precisely aligned with your set combination. If you have forgotten your combination, there is no master reset for the user. You will need to try combinations or replace the lock.
  • Difficulty setting combination: Make sure the cable is fully disengaged and the reset button/lever is pressed or slid completely into the reset position before rotating the dials.
  • Cable not engaging/disengaging: Check for any obstructions in the cable slot or if the cable itself is bent or damaged. Ensure the combination is correctly set before attempting to disengage.
