2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before installation and use. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or other hazards.

  • Power Supply: Only use a compatible 12V DC power supply. For a full 16.4 ft (5 meter) strip, a 12V/5A (60 Watt) power supply is recommended. Using an underpowered supply may reduce brightness, and an overpowered supply can damage the strip.
  • Electrical Connections: Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent short circuits.
  • Heat Dissipation: Do not operate the LED strip while it is still wound on the shipping spool for extended periods (more than a few minutes), as this can cause excessive heat buildup and reduce lifespan. Ensure adequate airflow around the strip during operation.
  • Cutting: Only cut the LED strip at the designated cut marks (approximately every 2 inches, after every 3 LEDs). Cutting elsewhere will damage the circuit and render that section inoperable.
  • Waterproofing: For IP65 waterproof strips, ensure any cut ends are properly sealed with clear RTV silicone glue or similar waterproof sealant to maintain impermeability.
  • Adhesive: The adhesive tape provided may not be sufficient for all surfaces. Consider using additional mounting clips or stronger adhesive for secure installation, especially on uneven or porous surfaces.
  • Indoor/Outdoor Use: While rated IP65 for outdoor use, ensure all power connections and adapters are also rated for the intended environment.

3. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your LED strip light.

3.1 Preparation

  • Ensure the installation surface is clean, dry, and smooth.
  • Measure the desired length for your LED strip.
  • If cutting is required, identify the designated cut marks on the strip. These marks are typically indicated by a copper pad and a scissor icon.

3.2 Cutting the LED Strip (If Needed)

  1. Locate the designated cut marks on the LED strip. These occur approximately every 2 inches (every 3 LEDs).
  2. Using sharp scissors, carefully cut along the center of the copper pads at the desired mark.
  3. For IP65 waterproof strips, apply a waterproof sealant (e.g., clear RTV silicone glue) to the cut end to maintain its waterproof integrity.

3.3 Mounting the LED Strip

  1. Carefully peel off the covering from the adhesive backing tape on the LED strip.
  2. Press the LED strip firmly onto the desired surface. Apply even pressure along the entire length to ensure good adhesion.
  3. For long runs or surfaces where the adhesive may be insufficient, use additional mounting clips (not included) to secure the strip.

3.4 Power Connection

  1. Connect the LED strip's female connector to a compatible 12V DC power adapter (sold separately).
  2. Ensure the power adapter is rated appropriately for the length of the LED strip being used (e.g., 12V/5A for a full 16.4 ft strip).
  3. Plug the power adapter into a standard electrical outlet.

4. Operating Instructions

Once installed and powered, the LED strip is ready for use.

  • Power On/Off: The LED strip will illuminate when power is supplied to the adapter. To turn off, disconnect power or use a switch on the power adapter or wall outlet.
  • Dimming (Optional): If a compatible LEDMO Single Color Dimmer (sold separately) is connected between the power adapter and the LED strip, you can adjust the brightness using the dimmer's controls.
  • Remote Control (Optional): If a remote control system is used (sold separately), refer to its specific instructions for operation.

5. Maintenance

The LEDMO SMD5630 LED Strip Light requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the strip with a dry, soft cloth to remove dust. For waterproof strips, a damp cloth can be used, but ensure no water enters connections. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Adhesion Check: Periodically check the adhesion of the strip to its surface. If sections begin to peel, re-secure them with additional adhesive or mounting clips.
  • Connection Check: Ensure all power connections remain secure and free from corrosion.

6. Troubleshooting

Refer to the following common issues and solutions.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
LED strip does not light up.No power, loose connection, faulty power adapter, incorrect voltage.
  • Verify the power adapter is plugged into a working outlet.
  • Check all connections between the strip and the power adapter.
  • Ensure the power adapter is 12V DC.
  • Test the power adapter with another device if possible.
Sections of the LED strip are not lighting up or flickering.Damaged section, improper cut, individual LED failure, voltage drop.
  • Inspect the non-working section for visible damage or improper cuts.
  • For long runs, consider adding parallel power leads to reduce voltage drop and ensure consistent brightness.
  • Individual LED failures can occur over time and are generally not repairable.
LED strip adhesive is failing.Surface not clean/smooth, adhesive quality, environmental factors.
  • Clean the surface thoroughly before re-applying.
  • Use additional mounting clips or a stronger, appropriate adhesive for your surface type.
Light output is uneven or dimmer at the end of the strip.Voltage drop over longer lengths.
  • For runs longer than 10 feet, consider powering the strip from both ends or adding additional power injection points along the strip to maintain consistent voltage.
