5. Setup
Air Supply Requirements
Ensure your air compressor and air supply system meet the following specifications for optimal performance:
- Air Pressure: 90 PSI (6.2 bar) maximum.
- Air Consumption: 4 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) at 90 PSI.
- Minimum Hose Size: 3/8-inch inner diameter.
- Air Inlet: 1/4-inch NPT.
It is recommended to use an air filter/regulator/lubricator (FRL) unit in your air line to ensure clean, regulated, and lubricated air supply, which prolongs tool life.
Connecting to Air Supply
- Ensure the air compressor is turned off and the air tank is drained.
- Apply thread sealant tape to the 1/4-inch NPT air inlet fitting on the tool.
- Attach a quick-connect plug (not included) to the air inlet fitting.
- Connect the air hose (minimum 3/8-inch ID) from your FRL unit (if used) or compressor to the quick-connect plug.
- Turn on the air compressor and adjust the regulator to 90 PSI.
- Check all connections for air leaks.
Initial Lubrication
Before first use, and before each subsequent use, add 5-10 drops of air tool oil into the air inlet of the tool. This lubricates the internal components and ensures smooth operation.
6. Operation
Familiarize yourself with the tool's controls before beginning work.

Figure 2: Rear view of the impact wrench showing the forward/reverse selector and power adjustment.
Forward/Reverse and Power Adjustment
- The tool features a one-handed forward/reverse switch, typically located near the trigger.
- To select Forward (tightening), push the switch to the appropriate position (often marked 'F' or with an arrow pointing clockwise).
- To select Reverse (loosening), push the switch to the opposite position (often marked 'R' or with an arrow pointing counter-clockwise). This setting provides the maximum 980 ft.-lbs. of torque.
- Some models may include a power adjustment dial, usually integrated with the forward/reverse switch, allowing you to select different power levels for tightening. Adjust as needed for the specific application.
Using the Impact Wrench
- Select the appropriate impact socket for the fastener. Ensure the socket is in good condition and designed for impact use.
- Attach the socket firmly onto the 1/2-inch square drive anvil.
- Place the socket onto the fastener, ensuring it is fully engaged.
- Squeeze the trigger to operate the tool. The tool will deliver impacts to tighten or loosen the fastener.
- For tightening, avoid over-tightening. Always use a torque wrench to achieve final specified torque values, as impact wrenches are designed for rapid fastening/unfastening, not precise torque application.
- Release the trigger to stop the tool.

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and performance of your air impact wrench.
Daily Maintenance
- Lubrication: Add 5-10 drops of air tool oil into the air inlet before each use. If using an in-line lubricator, ensure it is filled and properly adjusted.
- Drain Air Tank: Drain moisture from your air compressor's tank daily to prevent rust and contamination of the air supply.
- Inspect Air Filter: Check and clean or replace the air filter in your FRL unit as needed.
General Maintenance
- Cleaning: Keep the tool clean and free of debris. Wipe down the housing with a clean cloth. Do not use harsh solvents.
- Inspect Connections: Periodically check all air hose connections and fittings for leaks or damage.
- Anvil Inspection: Inspect the square drive anvil for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.
- Storage: When not in use, disconnect the air supply, add a few drops of air tool oil, and store the tool in a clean, dry place away from extreme temperatures.
8. Troubleshooting
