Setup
- Unpack: Carefully remove one BD-100 Bag Decanter from its packaging.
- Inspect: Visually inspect the decanter for any signs of damage, cracks, or contamination. Do not use if any issues are observed.
- Prepare Environment: Ensure the work area is clean and sterile, following standard aseptic protocols.
- Remove Caps: Gently remove the protective caps from both ends of the decanter.
Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for aseptic fluid transfer:
- Connect to Source: Insert the pointed end of the BD-100 Bag Decanter into the port of the flexible IV container from which fluid is to be transferred. Ensure a secure, aseptic connection.
- Connect to Destination: Connect the spout end of the BD-100 Bag Decanter to the receiving container or administration set.
- Initiate Flow: Once both connections are secure, position the containers to allow gravity-assisted fluid transfer. The design of the decanter facilitates smooth flow.
- Control Flow (if needed): The spout can be resealed to temporarily stop or control the flow of fluid as required during the transfer process. Exercise caution to maintain sterility.
- Complete Transfer: Monitor the fluid transfer until the desired volume has been moved.
- Disconnect: Aseptically disconnect the decanter from both the source and destination containers.
- Dispose: Immediately dispose of the used BD-100 Bag Decanter according to institutional guidelines for single-use medical devices.
Maintenance
The BD-100 Bag Decanter is a single-use device and requires no maintenance. Do not attempt to clean, sterilize, or reuse the decanter.
- Storage: Store unused decanters in their original packaging in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Disposal: After a single use, dispose of the decanter as biohazardous waste in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues during use, consider the following:
- No Flow or Slow Flow:
- Ensure both ends of the decanter are properly connected and unobstructed.
- Verify that the source IV container has fluid and is positioned correctly for gravity flow.
- Check if the spout has been inadvertently resealed.
- Leakage:
- Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
- Inspect the decanter for any visible damage. If damaged, discontinue use and replace with a new unit.
If problems persist, discontinue use and contact Preferred Medical Products, LLC for assistance.
