2. Setup Instructions

2.1 Mounting the Video Head

  1. Attach to Tripod: Place the 75mm half ball of the BV6H into the 75mm bowl of your compatible tripod. Tighten the tripod's bowl clamp securely to fix the head in place.
  2. Leveling: Use the illuminated bubble level to ensure the head is perfectly horizontal. Adjust the half ball within the tripod bowl until the bubble is centered, then re-tighten the clamp.
  3. Flat Base Mounting (Optional): For mounting on sliders or other flat surfaces, remove the tie-down stud from the base of the video head. Secure the head using the appropriate mounting screw on your support.

2.2 Mounting the Camera

  1. Attach Quick Release Plate: Secure the quick release plate (included with the BV6H) to the bottom of your camera using the camera screw. Ensure it is tightly fastened to prevent movement.
  2. Insert Camera: Slide the quick release plate with the camera into the receiver on the video head. Ensure it clicks into place or is securely locked by the quick release lever/knob.

3. Operating the Video Head

3.1 Counterbalance Adjustment

The BV6H features an 8-step counterbalance system (steps 0-7) to balance your camera setup. This prevents the camera from tipping forward or backward when the tilt lock is disengaged.

  1. Disengage Tilt Lock: Release the independent tilt lock.
  2. Adjust Counterbalance: Rotate the counterbalance knob (typically located on the side of the head) to increase or decrease the counterbalance force. Start with a lower setting and gradually increase until the camera remains stable at any tilt angle without assistance.
  3. Test Balance: Gently tilt the camera to various angles. If it drifts, adjust the counterbalance until it holds its position.

3.2 Pan and Tilt Drag Control

The 4-step pan and tilt drag controls allow for precise adjustment of movement resistance, enabling smooth and repeatable camera movements.

  • Pan Drag: Adjust the pan drag knob (usually on the left side) to control the resistance when rotating the head horizontally.
  • Tilt Drag: Adjust the tilt drag knob (usually on the left side) to control the resistance when tilting the head vertically.
  • Independent Locks: Use the independent pan and tilt locks to completely secure the head in position when no movement is desired.

3.3 Accessory Mounts

The BV6H includes two 3/8" accessory mounts, one on each side of the head. These can be used to attach external accessories such as monitors, audio recorders, or articulating arms.

  • Attachment: Screw compatible accessories directly into the 3/8" threaded ports.
  • Stability: Ensure accessories are securely fastened to prevent accidental detachment during operation.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Benro BV6H video head.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the head after each use. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the video head in a clean, dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all knobs, levers, and screws for tightness. Do not overtighten.
  • Avoid Lubrication: The internal mechanisms are factory-lubricated. Do not apply additional lubricants unless specifically instructed by Benro support, as this can attract dust and impair performance.

5. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your video head.

  • Camera Not Balancing:
    • Ensure the quick release plate is correctly positioned and securely locked.
    • Adjust the 8-step counterbalance system. Increase the counterbalance setting if the camera is front-heavy, or decrease if it's rear-heavy.
  • Pan/Tilt Movements Are Not Smooth:
    • Check the pan and tilt drag settings. Adjust them to your desired resistance level.
    • Ensure the independent pan and tilt locks are fully disengaged.
    • Clean any dust or debris from the moving parts (without disassembling).
  • Head Not Leveling:
    • Ensure the 75mm half ball is properly seated in the tripod bowl and the bowl clamp is securely tightened.
    • Re-adjust the half ball using the illuminated bubble level.
