4. Setup
4.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove all packaging materials. Ensure all components are present and undamaged. Retain packaging for future transport if needed.
4.2 Initial Cleaning
- Wash the water tank, drip tray, and coffee grounds container with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.
4.3 Filling the Water Tank
- Remove the water tank from the machine.
- Fill it with fresh, cold drinking water up to the MAX level indicator.
- Replace the water tank securely in the machine.
4.4 Adding Coffee Beans
- Open the lid of the bean hopper.
- Pour whole roasted coffee beans into the hopper. Do not use ground coffee, instant coffee, or caramelized beans.
- Close the lid securely.
4.5 First Use / Priming
Before making your first coffee, the machine needs to be primed:
- Plug the machine into a power outlet.
- Place a container under the coffee spouts and steam nozzle.
- Follow the on-screen prompts or indicator lights for the priming cycle. This typically involves dispensing hot water through the coffee spouts and steam nozzle to fill the internal circuits.
- Once the cycle is complete, the machine is ready for use.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Turning On/Off
- Press the power button (U) to turn the machine on or off.
- The machine will perform an automatic rinse cycle upon startup.
5.2 Adjusting Grind Settings
- The grind fineness can be adjusted using the dial inside the bean hopper (see Figure 3.3).
- Adjust the grind only when the grinder is operating.
- Finer grind for stronger espresso, coarser grind for lighter coffee.
5.3 Making Espresso/Coffee

Figure 5.1: The Krups EA 810B machine actively brewing coffee into a cup, demonstrating the coffee spouts in action.
- Ensure the water tank is filled and the bean hopper contains beans.
- Place one or two cups under the coffee spouts.
- Use the central dial to select the desired coffee volume (e.g., 20ml for espresso, up to 220ml for a long coffee).
- Press the single cup or double cup button to start brewing.
- The machine will automatically grind the beans, brew, and dispense the coffee.
5.4 Using the Steam Nozzle for Milk Frothing

Figure 5.2: A glass of layered coffee and frothed milk, indicating the machine's capability to produce milk-based beverages using its steam nozzle.
- Fill a pitcher with cold milk (preferably semi-skimmed or whole milk).
- Position the steam nozzle into the milk, just below the surface.
- Press the steam button (often indicated by a steam icon).
- Move the pitcher up and down gently to create foam.
- Once desired foam is achieved, press the steam button again to stop.
- Immediately clean the steam nozzle after use to prevent milk residue from drying.
6. Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your machine.
6.1 Daily Cleaning
- Drip Tray and Coffee Grounds Container: Empty and rinse daily. The machine will indicate when the grounds container needs emptying.
- Water Tank: Rinse daily and refill with fresh water.
- Steam Nozzle: After each use, wipe the nozzle with a damp cloth. If clogged, use a small pin to clear the opening.
6.2 Descaling (CALC Indicator)
The machine will indicate when descaling is required (CALC light). Descaling removes mineral buildup and is crucial for machine performance.
- Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container.
- Fill the water tank with fresh water and add a suitable descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions.
- Place a large container (at least 1 liter) under the coffee spouts and steam nozzle.
- Follow the machine's instructions (refer to the specific descaling program in your full manual if available) to initiate the descaling cycle. This typically involves pressing and holding a button or following indicator light sequences.
- The machine will dispense the descaling solution in stages.
- After the descaling solution is used, rinse the water tank thoroughly and refill with fresh water.
- Run a rinse cycle with fresh water to flush out any remaining descaling solution.
6.3 Cleaning Cycle (CLEAN Indicator)
The CLEAN indicator signals that the machine requires a cleaning tablet cycle to remove coffee oil residues.
- Place a Krups cleaning tablet into the designated slot (refer to your machine's specific design for the tablet slot, often near the bean hopper or brew unit access).
- Place a container under the coffee spouts.
- Follow the machine's instructions to start the cleaning cycle.
- The machine will perform a series of rinses.
- Empty and clean the drip tray and grounds container after the cycle is complete.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No coffee dispensed. | Water tank empty; machine not primed; coffee spouts blocked. | Fill water tank; perform priming cycle; clean coffee spouts. |
| Coffee is too weak. | Grind setting too coarse; insufficient coffee dose; old beans. | Adjust grind to finer setting; select stronger coffee option; use fresh beans. |
| Machine leaks water. | Water tank not seated correctly; drip tray full; internal seal issue. | Ensure water tank is firmly in place; empty drip tray; contact customer support if problem persists. |
| Steam nozzle not frothing milk. | Nozzle clogged; insufficient steam pressure. | Clean nozzle with a pin; ensure machine is heated to steam temperature. |
| CLEAN/CALC indicator lights up. | Machine requires cleaning or descaling. | Perform the indicated cleaning or descaling cycle as described in Section 6. |
