1. Introduction and Overview
The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 16mm F1.4 R WR is a high-performance, weather-resistant fixed focal length lens designed for Fujifilm X-Mount interchangeable system cameras. With a 24mm equivalent focal length in 35mm format, it offers a dramatic wide field of view. Its fast F1.4 maximum aperture provides exceptional image quality in low-light conditions and enables pleasing bokeh for macro photography. The lens features a minimum working distance of less than 6 inches, allowing for versatile creative photographic possibilities. Its robust weather- and dust-resistant construction ensures reliable operation in temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C). The integrated depth-of-field scale on the focus ring assists photographers in calculating distance and adjusting aperture for spontaneous shooting.

4. Operating the Lens
4.1 Aperture Control
The lens features an aperture ring for direct control over the F-stop. Rotate the aperture ring to select your desired aperture setting (e.g., F1.4, F2, F2.8, etc.). For automatic aperture control, set the ring to the 'A' position.
4.2 Focus Ring and Depth-of-Field Scale
The focus ring allows for precise manual focusing. To adjust focus, rotate the focus ring while observing the image in your camera's display or viewfinder. The depth-of-field scale on the focus ring can be used to assist in manual focus, particularly for landscape, travel, and street photography where pre-focusing or zone focusing is desired.

4.3 Autofocus (AF)
The lens features a high-speed autofocus system, capable of focusing in approximately 0.11 seconds. Ensure your camera's focus mode is set to AF for automatic focusing. The lens's wide aperture and advanced optics contribute to fast and accurate focusing.
4.4 Macro Photography
With a minimum working distance of less than 6 inches (0.15m) and a maximum magnification of 0.21x, this lens is capable of close-up and macro photography. This feature, combined with its wide-angle perspective and fast aperture, allows for unique and creative close-up shots with a distinct background context.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning the Lens
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a lens brush to remove dust from the lens surfaces.
- For stubborn smudges or fingerprints, apply a small amount of lens cleaning solution to a clean microfiber cloth and gently wipe the lens in a circular motion.
- Never use abrasive materials or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the lens coatings.
5.2 Storage
- When not in use, always attach the front and rear lens caps to protect the optical elements.
- Store the lens in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- If storing for extended periods, consider using a dehumidifier or desiccant to prevent mold growth, especially in humid environments.
5.3 Weather Resistance
The lens features a weather-resistant design with 9 sealing points in 8 areas. While this provides protection against dust and moisture, it is not fully waterproof. Avoid prolonged exposure to heavy rain or submersion in water. Always wipe off any moisture promptly after use in damp conditions.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Lens Not Focusing
- Ensure the camera's focus mode is set correctly (AF for autofocus, MF for manual focus).
- Check for sufficient light in the scene. Autofocus performance may be reduced in very low light.
- Clean the lens contacts on both the lens and camera body.
6.2 Image Quality Issues (Flare/Ghosting)
While the Nano-GI coating is designed to reduce ghosting and flare, extreme lighting conditions can still cause these effects.
- Ensure the lens hood is properly attached.
- Reposition yourself or the light source to avoid direct light hitting the front element.
- Check for smudges or dust on the lens elements and clean as necessary.
6.3 Lens Not Mounting Correctly
- Ensure the lens and camera body mounting marks are correctly aligned.
- Do not force the lens. If resistance is met, re-align and try again.
- Check for any obstructions or damage to the lens mount or camera mount.
